SUMMARY
Seeking a Principal Product Designer to lead the design and visual direction for commercial web properties dedicated to Lilly’s weight loss medication. This role supports the Enterprise Web Initiative (EWI)—the centralized platform and operating model that enables teams across Lilly to create, manage, and scale digital web experiences. This role is critical to elevating the quality, usability, and visual excellence of enterprise digital products while ensuring consistency across the brand ecosystem.
The Principal Product Designer will act as a strong, high-visibility leader, translating product, brand, and experience strategy into best-in-class digital experiences through exceptional design craft and product thinking. As a senior individual contributor, this role blends hands-on design execution, authoritative visual and UX leadership, and team-wide mentorship, partnering closely with Design Directors, Product, Engineering, and business stakeholders to ensure EWI experiences reflect Lilly’s standards for trust, clarity, accessibility, and compliance in a highly regulated global environment
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Lead Visual Direction: Set and elevate the design standard and visual direction for commercial web properties, specifically focusing on Zepbound and related weight loss medication initiatives.
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Act as a strong leader who effectively manages the brand identity and coordinates design alignment across the larger, multidisciplinary enterprise team.
- Hands-on Execution: Contribute hands-on design leadership across EWI-managed web experiences, translating product strategy, user needs, and brand vision into intuitive, accessible, and high-fidelity design solutions.
- Brand Governance: Ensure digital experiences maintain consistent visual design, interaction patterns, accessibility, and content hierarchy aligned with Lilly’s enterprise design system and specific brand guidelines.
- Lifecycle Management: Support the end-to-end product design process—from discovery and concepting through design, validation, and launch—within a commercial enterprise web governance model.
- Strategic Collaboration: Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and commercial brand teams to define requirements, scope solutions, and resolve complex design challenges while balancing speed, scalability, and quality.
- Accessibility Advocacy: Champion user-centered design, usability, and accessibility best practices (WCAG), particularly for high-traffic healthcare, patient, and provider-facing experiences.
- System Contribution: Contribute to and help evolve enterprise design systems, component libraries, UI patterns, and templates to enable scalable product development.
- Stakeholder Alignment: Communicate design rationale and visual strategy clearly and persuasively to stakeholders and commercial leadership.
- Quality Assurance: Act as the ultimate quality bar for design execution, ensuring solutions meet product, brand, regulatory, and experience standards prior to delivery.
CORE COMPETENCIES
- Strong Leadership Presence: Proven ability to lead across a larger team, drive alignment, and maintain strong brand management across multiple digital touchpoints.
- Visual Direction & Mastery: Exceptional product design and visual design craft with a strong user-centered mindset and the ability to dictate the visual future of a major product line.
- Strategic Product Thinking: Ability to translate complex product and business requirements into clear, elegant, and commercially viable design solutions.
- Enterprise Design Expertise: Deep expertise in digital product design, design systems, accessibility, and scalable UI patterns for commercial web applications.
- Communication & Influence: Strong cross-functional communication and collaboration skills with a proven ability to mentor and influence designers without direct authority.
- Attention to Detail: High attention to detail and strong design judgment at enterprise scale.
REQUIRED EDUCATION Bachelor’s degree in Design, Visual Communication, Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field. Equivalent practical experience will be considered.
EXPERIENCE
- 10+ years of experience in product design, digital design, or UX/UI design, with demonstrated success delivering enterprise-scale digital products.
- Extensive experience designing web-based, commercial, and digital products within agile or product-led environments.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing brand consistency and driving design direction across large, multi-disciplinary teams.
- Strong experience working within design systems and component-based platforms.
- Proven collaboration with product managers, engineers, and leadership to define and deliver solutions.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating high-quality product thinking, elite visual craft, and scalable execution.
