As a Principal Product Designer at Yahoo, you’ll use your creative intuition, strategic mindset, and passion for building great experiences to shape the future of how fans engage with our products.

You'll uplevel the visual and aesthetic quality of our app, from color and style choices to visuals to interaction and motion design excellence. You’ll lead by example, using your expertise in product design and your ability to inspire and influence teams. You thrive in turning complex challenges into simple, elegant solutions. Your ability to balance data-driven insights with creativity will help drive the next generation of sports experiences. You’ll collaborate across functions and leverage your technical expertise to deliver innovative, high-quality products.

Your Day-to-Day

  • Drive strategic initiatives: Lead design initiatives that align with our sports strategy by understanding the market, customer needs, and competition.

  • Create impactful experiences: Identify user needs, and design, launch, and scale innovative solutions that delight users and drive engagement.

  • Collaborate across teams: Build strong relationships with product managers, engineers, and data scientists to analyze data and drive decisions grounded in evidence.

  • Deliver exceptional design: Solve ambiguous challenges by turning insights into clear, actionable, and delightful user experiences across iOS, Android, and web platforms.

  • Elevate design systems: Contribute to and maintain a scalable design system that supports both design and engineering workflows.

  • Mentor and inspire: Guide and provide feedback to teammates and cross-functional partners to elevate the overall quality of work.

What You Bring to the Team

  • Design expertise: Strong skills across information architecture, interaction design, visual design, and prototyping to create cohesive and impactful user experiences.

  • Aesthetic and functional balance: Deliver polished, consistent designs that balance visual appeal and usability through typography, color, and visual hierarchy.

  • Prototyping mastery: Use prototypes as a tool to explore ideas and influence stakeholders effectively.

  • Creative problem-solving: Approach challenges with innovative solutions while staying focused on the “why” behind your decisions.

  • Effective communication: Present designs confidently, adapt your approach for different audiences, and thrive on constructive feedback.

  • Accountability and initiative: Take ownership of timelines, deliverables, and outcomes while striving for continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in digital product design for iOS, Android, and web platforms.

  • Strong portfolio showcasing expertise in visual design, interaction design, prototyping, and product thinking.

  • Experience designing for sports products; knowledge of fantasy sports and gaming is a plus.

  • Passion for sports and deep understanding of the industry and competitive landscape.

  • Proven ability to design products that meet or exceed accessibility standards.

  • Analytical skills with experience using data to inform design decisions.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with high levels of empathy and collaboration.

  • Proficiency with design tools for creating concepts, prototypes, and specifications.

  • Enthusiasm for learning and adapting within the dynamic sports landscape.

The compensation for this position ranges from $143,625.00 - $299,375.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions. Our comprehensive benefits include healthcare, a great 401k, backup childcare, education stipends and much (much) more.
