About the Role

As a Principal Product Designer at Chorus, you will lead the charge in crafting visually stunning and highly intuitive user experiences that solve complex challenges in health at scale. This role requires a unique blend of strategic vision, systems thinking, and a passion for world-class visual design. As a key architect of the design strategy, you’ll ensure cohesive, innovative solutions that resonate with users and deliver measurable impact across the organization.

Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you’ll champion design excellence as both a critical function and a strategic advantage. Leveraging your deep understanding of complex systems and an eye for detail, you’ll transform complex and confusing workflows into simple, elegant, and effective solutions that empower users and advance our mission.

Please note, this is a contract-to-hire opportunity, starting as a contractor/freelance role with the potential to convert to a full-time employee role

What You’ll Be Doing

Design Strategy & Vision

  • Define and drive the product design vision for high-impact initiatives, ensuring alignment with user needs and company goals. Advocate for design excellence across the organization, balancing business, technical, and customer perspectives.

Lead by Example

  • Set the standard for design quality through hands-on contributions, including user flows, interaction models, wireframes, and visually compelling mockups. Serve as a champion for cohesive and inclusive design practices.

Collaboration & Partnership

  • Build strong, trust-based relationships with product managers, engineers, researchers, and stakeholders. Lead discussions to align on goals, dependencies, and trade-offs. Partner with engineering to bring design concepts to life, maintaining quality and consistency.

Mentorship & Culture

  • Inspire and mentor designers, fostering an environment of learning and creative exploration. Cultivate a culture of innovation, empathy, and inclusion that enables every team member to thrive and contribute their best work.

Design Leadership

  • Advocate for user-centered design thinking and the role of design in achieving business outcomes. Act as a design system steward, guiding teams to maintain and evolve standards for visual, interaction, and accessibility excellence.

Storytelling & Influence

  • Communicate compelling narratives that articulate the rationale behind design decisions, inspire stakeholders, and align cross-functional teams. Use data, customer insights, and prototypes to build alignment around shared goals.

  • Proficient in design tools like Figma and adept at using research, testing, and analytics to inform and iterate on your designs. Bonus points for experience with motion, design systems, prototyping, and accessibility standards.

  • You are passionate about understanding and solving user problems. Your designs are driven by research insights, market trends, and a desire to create equitable and delightful experiences for diverse audiences.

Who you are

  • 12+ years of professional design experience, with at least 3 years leading or mentoring other designers.
  • Experience designing for web, mobile, or cross-platform ecosystems at scale.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with a knack for influencing executive stakeholders and rallying teams around a vision.
  • A growth mindset and the ability to adapt in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Bonus points for experience working on PaaS or SaaS products.

Compensation Disclosure
We are hiring for this position on a freelance contract basis with potential for conversion to a Full-Time Employee (FTE) role. The anticipated base salary for this position is $165,000 - $190,000 based on the Los Angeles market. The base salary offered may vary depending on several factors, including the applicant's qualifications, relevant experience, specific skills, level of education, certifications, and the geographic location where the role will be performed. 

Please note that the listed compensation details apply to the base salary only and do not include additional elements of the total compensation package, such as performance bonuses, stock options, or benefits. The final compensation package will be determined by evaluating the candidate’s qualifications in relation to market standards and internal pay equity.
