As a Principal Mechanical Engineer on the Atlas Platform Mechanical Team you will contribute every day to developing and improving Atlas’s mechanical design with your individual work and the mentorship and leadership your experience enables. With a role focus of Continuous Improvement Lead, you will be directly responsible for driving reliability within Atlas’s mechanical design - including structural assemblies, shells and covers, and overall hardware integration. This will include interfacing heavily with adjacent hardware teams, robot software and controls, and build and test teams. Through this collaboration you will conduct failure analysis to deeply understand a root cause and drive technical work to implement improvements to our mechanical hardware. You will play a major role in planning and executing Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) that will merge fixes into the BOM so future robots can avoid repeat failures. More generally you provide significant input into the higher level mechanical design strategy for our product as it matures. You will not manage a team directly, but be responsible for efficiently maturing the Atlas product as it progresses to and into production. This work is instrumental in delivering on our development robot performance objectives as well as developing a knowledge base to inform our mass production design
How You Will Make an Impact / Day-to-Day Activities
Work proactively, in partnership with our test test teams, to push the mechanical limits of Atlas
Collaborate with production and test teams to understand the details and context around failures
Review and synthesize data on failures and issues in Jira, generating a deep understanding of the maturity of all aspects of our Atlas structural component design
Conduct failure analysis, root cause, and corrective action work
Propose and execute design changes/ECOs to correct defects and prevent future failures
Be a primary contributor to the platform mechanical roadmap, championing what improvements should be made when and what technologies need investigation to provide value on future products
We Are Looking For / You Bring:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering plus a minimum of 8-10 years of experience in a design, systems or sustaining engineering role.

Extensive experience with Root Cause Analysis and general problem solving methodologies.
Extensive experience launching electromechanical products, leveraging a wide range of manufacturing processes and techniques
Exceptional organization and written/verbal communication skills.
A proven track record of autonomously managing large, complex projects, for which prioritization and delegation decisions were left to you.
Experience working in a collaborative setting, particularly in dynamic and agile environments.
Proficient CAD user, ability to design complex components and assemblies using CAD
Experience with PLM systems
Nice to have:
Experience with Jira, JAMA and Smartsheets
Experience using CATIA / 3DX CAD system
