We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Intelligent supply orchestration and automation solutions Principal Analyst, to join our team and drive our digital transformation initiatives.
The Principal Analyst, Intelligent supply orchestration and automation solutions is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and management of artificial intelligence (e.g. agentic) and automation technologies that build digital supply chain planning, forecasting and execution. These activities enable the rapid expansion the supply of all Vertex medicines during clinical trials and in all commercial supply across all modalities, from small molecules cell and gene therapy medicines. This work is a critical part of our supply chain solutions to ensure that fast, effective and compliant supply of all clinical and commercial supply occurs with speed, efficiency and ensuring that no patient is left behind.
This role ensures that AI, data and technology systems align with global regulatory requirements and global quality requirements and ensures alignment with technology and operational models across all these domains. The Principal partners across global, US and international supply chain, clinical and commercial supply chain, manufacturing operations, IT, quality and finance to enhance digital capabilities, drive automation, and improve operational efficiency in supply chain planning, forecasting and execution processes to deliver high value, high speed impact.
Reporting Line
The Intelligent supply orchestration and automation solutions reports directly to the Director, Supply Chain Digitalization and Automation.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Vision and Strategy
- Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of capacity and supply chain management systems to support the clinical and commercial supply of all Vertex medicines.
- Oversee the integration of capacity and supply chain management digital solutions that manage data flows across experiment capture through to analytical insight.
- Couple mastery of the marketplace of commercial products with innovation to where creative solutions can drive Vertex’s needs forward.
Operational Execution
- Collaborate globally to accelerate operational efficiency in supply chain planning, forecasting and execution processes.
- Oversee Design and Implementation of strategic integrations across internal and external systems to enable real time data exchange.
- Monitor and implement fast moving AI technologies and regulatory trends to design and build system capabilities and maintain compliance with evolving global standards.
Leadership
- Oversee the execution of projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and ensure successful project delivery.
- Monitor and report on project performance using key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a supply chain or logistics discipline, computer science, IT or relevant equivalent; Master’s degree preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in automation technology, ideally with AI and agentic experience, ideally within supply chain domains.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and initiatives that require collaboration across multiple functional areas.
- Experience in pharmaceuticals and life sciences is a plus.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Experience in successfully developing and implementing technology strategy, preferably within a complex organization.
- Exceptional problem-solving and strategic thinking abilities, with a focus on driving innovation and operational excellence.
- Excellent communication skills including the ability to produce strategic documents, present ideas and solutions to technical and non-technical audiences, and all levels of the organization.
- A strong commitment to compliance and integrity in systems, processes, and actions, with a deep understanding of the biotech regulatory environment.
Co-Location Requirement:
- This is a hybrid role based in Boston, Massachusetts. The Flex @ Vertex Policy requires 3 days a week onsite (of your choice).
Other Requirements
- Willingness to travel up to 10% to support business objectives.
- Experience with enabling advanced technologies, such as AI and machine learning, through data engineering strategies is highly desirable.
Pay Range:
$140,700 - $211,000Disclosure Statement:
The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.

1. Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week; or select
