Job Description SummaryAs Principal Architect, you will lead the design and deployment of a next-generation Digital Engineering Ecosystem that integrates hybrid compute environments, modern hosting strategies, and a hub and spoke model that enables collaborative frameworks and synchronized tools.
This role focuses on unifying on-premises HPC clusters, engineering workstations, and cloud-native (AWS) resources into a scalable, secure, and high-performance infrastructure. You will also drive an enterprise connected tools strategy to enable immersive, real-time collaboration across global engineering teams for model-based systems engineering (MBSE), multi-physics simulation, and digital twin development.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities:
Hybrid Compute & Hosting Strategy

  • Architect and deliver hybrid compute solutions spanning HPC clusters, high-end engineering workstations, and AWS (EC2, S3) for dynamic scaling of engineering workloads.
  • Define and implement hosting architectures for digital engineering tools and environments, balancing performance, cost, and accessibility.
  • Develop orchestration strategies leveraging tools like Kubernetes and containerization technologies (Docker) for distributed simulation pipelines.
  • Optimize data movement, workload scheduling, and compute resource allocation across hybrid environments and global sites.

Collaborative Digital Engineering

  • Drive GE Aerospace’s enterprise hub-and-spoke strategy, mirroring OpenUSD framework, developing an omniverse to build real-time, immersive digital collaboration spaces for design and simulation.
  • Enable integration of diverse engineering data (CAD/CAE, MBSE, simulation results) into unified scenes for cross-domain visualization and decision-making.

Database Architecture for Tracking & Searchability

  • Design and implement scalable database architectures (relational and NoSQL) to track engineering models, simulation results, and metadata across the digital ecosystem.
  • Enable advanced searchability of engineering artifacts using indexing, tagging, and semantic search technologies.
  • Integrate databases with PLM systems, simulation environments, and collaborative platforms to support versioning, traceability, and compliance.
  • Leverage graph databases (e.g., Neo4j) and knowledge graphs for complex relationship mapping across multi-disciplinary datasets.

Systems Architecture & Toolchain Integration

  • Design a cohesive architecture that integrates CAD/CAE platforms (CATIA, NX, ANSYS), MBSE frameworks (Cameo), and PLM systems (Teamcenter).
  • Develop and oversee development of APIs and middleware to ensure interoperability across tools, platforms, and compute environments.
  • Implement secure, version-controlled workflows for distributed engineering teams.

Security & Compliance

  • Establish robust cybersecurity protocols for data transfer between HPC, workstations, and AWS, ensuring compliance with ITAR, export controls, and aerospace standards (NIST 800-171, CMMC).

Digital Twin Enablement & AI Integration

  • Architect real-time digital twin frameworks powered by hybrid compute backends for predictive analytics and lifecycle management.
  • Integrate AI/ML pipelines for design space exploration, anomaly detection, and performance optimization.

Technical Leadership

  • Provide cross-disciplinary technical guidance to engineering, IT, and design tools teams for deploying and operating hybrid compute environments at scale.
  • Collaborate with AWS architects, HPC administrators, and GE Aerospace leadership to align compute and hosting architecture with future flight programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in hosting, networking, or high-complexity digital environments.
  • Proven track record architecting and deploying hybrid compute infrastructures integrating HPC, cloud, and engineering workstations.
  • Deep understanding of MBSE, multi-disciplinary optimization (MDO), and high-fidelity simulation workflows.

Technical Expertise:

  • Proficiency with HPC schedulers (SLURM, PBS, LSF) and AWS services (EC2, S3, EKS, AWS Batch).
  • Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker, Singularity) and DevOps practices (CI/CD, GitOps).
  • Strong programming skills (Python, C++) for API/middleware development.
  • Knowledge of OpenUSD, NVIDIA Omniverse, and standards like SysML, FMI/FMU.
  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and aerospace cybersecurity standards (NIST 800-171, CMMC).

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • 15+ years in hosting, networking, or high-complexity digital environments.•
  • Experience designing hybrid HPC/cloud architectures for design and simulation workloads.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch) integrated into engineering pipelines.
  • Familiarity with PLM systems (Teamcenter).

What This Role Enables:
This is a technical leadership role at the nexus of physics-based engineering, distributed compute systems, and immersive digital ecosystems. You will set the strategic direction for a hybrid compute-enabled, connected engineering platform that enables GE Aerospace engineers to deliver high-fidelity simulations, accelerate certification timelines, and innovate faster for the future of flight.
