Your Future Team
We are looking for a Principal Designer to be a key leader in the JSM (Jira Service Management) Design team. In this role, you will report into the Head of Design, JSM, and join an organization consisting of multiple teams across India, Australia, and Turkey. As a senior individual contributor, you'll lead strategic design work all aiming to improve product experiences across the service management suite. This role will help Atlassian redefine Service Management practice in this AI-native world, working with talented designers across Atlassian products to produce short- and long-term user-centered design. This Principal Designer will work with heads of design, product and engineering (along with other designers and researchers), to envision an AI-native Service Management world, driving alignment and connection between Atlassian's existing portfolio of products. Leading this space means you will focus on our customer base in 190 countries, having direct impact for tens of thousands of customers and millions of users!

What You'll Do
- Scan the product landscape for big opportunities to improve experiences using data and heuristics. Lead strategic vision and conceptual design outcomes to drive those opportunities across the service management landscape
- Apply your systems thinking and ability to understand complex relationships between various products, channels, features to drive better design outcomes
- Have a strong skillset in visual and interaction design which enables you to visually communicate your work for influence and impact
- Drive alignment with executive stakeholders around your ideas
- Create new experience models to help JSM implement emerging capabilities such as AI, video, and more
- Lead design projects from creation to execution and be responsible for tying back to customer value delivery and outcomes
- Identify success metrics ensuring design solutions continue to deliver customer value
- Work with Engineers, Product Managers, Content Designers, Researchers, Marketing Experts, and Analysts to advocate for the user experience in our products, define wider growth strategy for JSM, and ship high-quality work
- Bring perspective and needs of JSM design to larger strategic design projects
- Contribute to design initiatives outside JSM design, and help improve overall design capability at Atlassian
- Lead craft for JSM - drive design reviews, design crits and be the design craft leader and coach to other designers to help raise the bar
To be successful in this role you will need to have the following:
- 12+ years of product design experience, with a focus on complex systems, enterprise SaaS, or scalable design solutions.
- Deep expertise in systems design thinking, with a proven track record of creating and extending scalable design, models, patterns, and frameworks across organizational boundaries.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical thinking skills; using research, data insights, and design thinking to drive user-centered outcomes.
- Exceptional skill in employing storytelling and design to bring clarity to complex and abstract topics when communicating with stakeholders.
- Strong knowledge of visual design principles, including grids, layout, typography, and composition, and the ability to create cohesive, visually engaging designs.
- Experience collaborating with engineering teams to align design with architecture, informing technical decisions that enhance the user experience.
- Proficiency in design tools like Figma and prototyping software, with the ability to co-design and iterate with cross-functional teams.
- Excellent facilitation, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders across product, engineering, and design.
- A track record of coaching and mentoring designers to raise craft quality and foster a growth mindset.
- Familiarity with design systems, experience contributing to their evolution and scaling within a complex organization.
