Architects and optimizes embedded Layer 2/Layer 3 protocol stack software for 4G/5G cellular systems. Develops new product capabilities, interprets communications standards, troubleshoots complex customer defects, and collaborates with distributed engineering teams to integrate, validate, and improve system performance.
About the Role
Parallel Wireless is seeking a Principal Engineer, Stack, to work with our internal Engineering teams and external partners for our 5G products. In this role, you will contribute across the full embedded protocol stack development lifecycle, building new capabilities for future products. We are looking for an experienced engineer with a strong background in real-time systems and 4G/5G communications who thrives in a collaborative, global engineering environment.
What You Will Do
- Architect and optimize embedded Layer 2/Layer 3 (L2/L3) protocol stack software for 5G cellular systems.
- Identify new features and software environments for next-generation Parallel Wireless products.
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve complex software defects in existing solutions used by customers worldwide.
- Interpret relevant L2/L3 communications standards and technical specifications and translate them into efficient, reliable software implementations.
- Collaborate with engineering teams across multiple sites to integrate, validate, and improve stack functionality and system performance.
What You Bring
- At least 10+ years of hands-on development experience with embedded or real-time components in multithreaded systems.
- Bachelor’s degree or Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Solid understanding of communication protocols, with the ability to interpret L2/L3 standards and specifications and implement them effectively.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a global, multisite organization.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior development experience with cellular communication standards, particularly 4G LTE and/or 5G NR.
- Experience with containers, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Experience using telecommunications test and diagnostic tools, such as UE simulators and QXDM.
- Hands-on experience working with cellular modems.
