About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer with deep expertise in Linux and compute platforms to help modernize our virtual and physical server environments into a scalable, automated platform. This individual will play a critical role in transforming how infrastructure is provisioned, hardened, and maintained-enabling consistency, speed, and resilience across the Wealth & Investment Management (WIM) technology landscape.
The ideal candidate brings hands-on technical strength and a track record of success modernizing compute platforms through automation, infrastructure-as-code, and collaboration across enterprise tooling ecosystems. While deeply technical, this role also requires strong influence and partnership capabilities, as you will be expected to contribute to shared enterprise platforms while tailoring solutions to meet the specific needs of WIM products and applications. Knowledge across middleware, storage, and database stack is a key component of this role, as cross-domain awareness is critical to delivering the integrated, fit-for-purpose infrastructure solutions. While deep expertise in all areas Is not required, the ability to collaborate effectively with adjacent platform teams is essential.

In this role, you will:
- Act as an advisor to leadership to develop or influence applications, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groups
- Lead the modernization of compute platforms, designing automated build and provisioning frameworks that support both virtualized and physical infrastructure, particularly focused on Linux.
- Leverage existing enterprise tools and automation pipelines to deliver infrastructure as code, compliance by default, and repeatable deployment workflows.
- Partner closely with enterprise engineering and platform teams to ensure business-specific requirements are represented and integrated into shared solutions.
- Act as a technical expert and advisor to application teams, helping map workload needs to fit-for-purpose compute solutions.
- Develop reusable templates, hardened images, and compliance-aligned configurations to support rapid, secure deployment across environments.
- Continuously improve platform reliability, scalability, and observability using modern toolchains and proactive issue detection.
- 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
- 7+ years of hands-on engineering experience in Linux systems, virtualization, and infrastructure automation.
- Proven success in designing and delivering modern compute platforms in large, regulated enterprise environments.
- Strong proficiency in infrastructure-as-code tools such as Chef, Ansible, Terraform, or similar frameworks.
- Experience a plus working in hybrid environments, including physical hardware, VMs, and containers (e.g., OpenShift/Kubernetes).
- Excellent collaboration skills and the ability to navigate matrixed organizations to drive outcomes.
