As a Principal Engineer I, you will collaborate with technical operations staff on system design and configuration, while guiding design teams and advising team leaders to ensure cutting-edge solutions and seamless integration. In this impactful role, you will be at the forefront of technological innovation, maintaining and enhancing critical hardware, software, and electrical systems.
Spectrum Business Solutions Engineering group is looking for a Lead Engineer who is primarily responsible for design and Bill of Material containing the hardware / components required to support solutions requested by Spectrum Business sales utilizing established standards and best practices.
This position serves as the primary technical point of contact for Sales Engineers, Technical Sales Consultants, and their leadership.
How You'll Make an Impact
  • Design, implement, monitor, enhance and troubleshoot systems in assigned areas
  • Analyze and revise existing system logic difficulties and documentation as necessary
  • Test and review system designs
  • Provide engineering technical support and guidance to regional personnel and ensure all technical integration, changes, standards and documentation are met
  • Mentor and guide the work of technical staff
  • Review work plans and design and advise on improvements
  • Adhere to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable
  • Know, understand and follow company policy

What You'll Bring to Spectrum
Required Qualifications
Education
  • Master's or bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field or related work experience

Experience
  • 5+ years engineering work experience
  • 5+ years project management work experience

Skills
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Basic knowledge of related industry specifications and standards IEEE, ANSI, Fiber (Multimode, Single mode, UTP, etc.), Bridging, Switching, Routing, Ethernet and Transport technologies and protocols
  • Basic knowledge in network design, network architecture, protocols and network topology
  • Basic knowledge in TCP/IP and the OSI Model
  • Basic knowledge in using ticketing and software tools to support the current operations
  • Basic knowledge of network devices and basic network appliances
  • Basic knowledge of network designing software, such as Visio
  • Ability to perform duties in a very fast-paced environment and ability to learn new technology quickly
  • Ability to use personal computer and software applications

Preferred Qualifications
Education
  • Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE)
  • Industry and vendor specific certifications and training preferred (Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel-Lucent, etc.)

Skills
  • Knowledge of existing Charter Application/Network integrations and data sources
  • Knowledge of current Spectrum Business product offerings
  • Knowledge of wireless design tools such as Ekahau
  • Provide technical guidance for RFP/RFIs and monitor pre-launch activities for all new products and feature enhancements.
