Description

Resource Innovations is seeking a Principal, Energy Efficiency Policy to join our growing team in California. As Principal, Policy you will be responsible for integrating policy into program development and implementation for the California Market Transformation Administrator, a program of the California Public Utilities Commission. 

The California Market Transformation Administrator (CalMTA) develops and manages market transformation initiatives in the state to lower energy use and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.  We are seeking an individual with a comprehensive understanding of how utility and energy policy is created and implemented, and knowledge of California policy, agencies, and energy efficiency programs. Research, writing and overall strong communications skills are required. Our team is dedicated to energy efficiency through the tool of market transformation, and this is a unique opportunity to apply policy to impact energy efficiency program designs that support equity and will help solve climate change issues, while working for a great company.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees policy strategy for the CalMTA program.
  • Monitors and tracks policy developments through legislative and state regulatory proceedings, the DOE (Department of Energy) and other venues to ensure effective energy efficiency program development and implementation.
  • Tracks the ecosystem of all energy efficiency programs and their evolution in California
  • Disseminates policy information and intelligence internally to develop improved energy efficiency programs.
  • Builds and strengthens relationships with key agency personnel and stakeholder groups along with our stakeholder engagement team
  • Executes research on questions pertaining to policy decisions and their impact on programs
  • Assists in message development and presentation materials
  • Represents Resource Innovations and CalMTA in various policy forums if needed
  • Develops and supports regulatory filings with the CPUC.
  • Actively participates in program leadership meetings
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience conducting energy efficiency policy work, or similar experiences
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field; experience in lieu of degree acceptable
  • Proven ability to get deliverables produced in a timely and quality manner
  • Exceptional written communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex material.
  • Demonstrated research ability
  • Interest in sustainability and passionate about making a meaningful impact on the environment.

Preferred skills, education and experience

  • Located preferably within the state of California
  • CA policy knowledge related to energy efficiency and decarbonization is a strong preference

The compensation range for this exempt position is $140,000 - $180,000. The stated range is based on a good faith estimate of the compensation range for the duties, responsibilities and skills / experience required for the position. Starting pay will be dependent on experience, internal equity and location. This range may be exceeded for well-qualified candidates, especially with industry experience.

Employment with Resource Innovations is contingent upon the successful completion of a comprehensive background check and reference check. If applicable to the position, a pre-employment drug screen may also be required.
