That way, Atlassians have more control over supporting their family, personal goals, and other priorities. We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity. Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually, a part of being a distributed-first company.
We're seeking a Principal Developer Advocate who will play a vital role in engaging our developer community, empowering them to build powerful solutions, and amplifying the value of the Atlassian ecosystem.
Role Overview:
As a Principal Developer Advocate, you'll be the bridge between Atlassian and the developer community, leading efforts to drive engagement, education, and enablement across our ecosystem. You will represent the voice of developers both internally and externally, crafting content, building relationships, and creating programs that make it easier and more inspiring for developers to build with Atlassian tools. Your work will help developers understand the value of our ecosystem, expand their technical skills, and feel empowered to innovate on our platform.
Responsibilities:
  • Community Engagement & Advocacy:
    • Serve as a primary point of contact and advocate for developers building on Atlassian's platform, providing guidance, gathering feedback, and championing their needs within Atlassian.
    • Establish strong relationships with developer communities, user groups, and online forums to raise awareness of Atlassian's developer resources.
    • Actively participate in community discussions, respond to inquiries, and engage with developers to foster a supportive ecosystem.
  • Content Creation & Thought Leadership:
    • Develop and deliver technical content (blogs, webinars, videos, documentation) that educates and inspires developers on how to leverage the Atlassian ecosystem.
    • Craft engaging talks, demos, and presentations for industry conferences, community meetups, and Atlassian events to showcase the power of building on our platform.
    • Collaborate with marketing and product teams to create consistent messaging and amplify the voice of the developer community.
  • Technical Enablement & Education:
    • Design and lead technical workshops, hackathons, and training sessions that deepen developers' understanding of Atlassian's tools and platform capabilities.
    • Work with engineering and product teams to improve developer documentation, sample code, and SDKs to ensure developers have seamless experiences when building solutions.
    • Create programs that enable developers to onboard quickly, access resources, and find success within the Atlassian ecosystem.
  • Platform & Ecosystem Advocacy:
    • Act as the "voice of the developer" within Atlassian, providing actionable feedback to product and engineering teams to enhance the developer experience.
    • Identify, develop, and scale new ways to showcase the value of Atlassian's marketplace ecosystem, with a particular focus on expanding developer engagement and success.
    • Develop and share insights on developer trends, competitive landscapes, and community feedback to inform Atlassian's ecosystem strategy.

Qualifications:
  • 8+ years in software development, developer advocacy, technical evangelism, or a related role, with a strong technical background in software engineering or SaaS.
  • Proven experience building and nurturing developer communities, including hands-on experience engaging with developers on platforms like GitHub, Stack Overflow, and community forums.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with experience creating technical content across various formats (written, video, live presentations).
  • Deep understanding of Atlassian products and experience with REST APIs, SDKs, or developer tools.
  • Strong organizational skills, a proactive mindset, and a passion for helping developers succeed.
  • Willingness to travel for industry conferences, meetups, and Atlassian events, as needed.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.

Why Join Us? Atlassian offers an inspiring, open culture that encourages professional growth and innovation.
