Meet the Moment with Alteryx
We're living through a once-in-a-generation shift in how work gets done. Data, automation, and AI are quickly becoming the center of every business decision - and Alteryx is leading the transformation.
You'll be working on the challenges that sit at the heart of modern business. No matter your role, the work you do will help organizations move faster, see more clearly, and tackle questions that used to feel impossible.
If you're ready to meet the moment with innovation, curiosity, and excellence, there's a place for you here.
Alteryx is searching for a Principal, Agentic Product Design Engineer. This position is remote-friendly.
Position Overview:
We're looking for an engineer to help transform how products are designed and built through AI-assisted workflows, intelligent tooling, and agentic systems. Embedded within the Design System team, you'll work at the intersection of product development, user experience, and AI, creating shared capabilities that help teams move faster, make better decisions, and deliver more intelligent experiences. Your focus will be on identifying high-leverage opportunities where AI can improve how Product, Design, and Engineering teams work, then turning those opportunities into scalable systems, tools, and patterns that can be adopted across the organization.
You’ll partner closely with Product, Design, Engineering, Research, and Operations teams to identify where agentic systems can meaningfully improve how we design, build, ship, and use products. Sometimes that means building internal tools and workflow automations. Sometimes it means prototyping entirely new interaction models powered by LLMs and AI agents. Sometimes it means helping teams rethink the boundaries between product UX, developer experience, and organizational process.
Within the first 6–12 months, this person is expected to identify and deliver several high-leverage AI initiatives, establish a roadmap for AI-enabled product development, create reusable patterns and tooling adopted by multiple teams, and help shape how our organization designs, builds, and ships AI-powered experiences.
Primary Responsibilities:
Define the Future of AI-Enabled Product Development
Partner with Product, Design, Engineering, and Marketing teams to identify and prioritize high-leverage opportunities where AI can improve workflows, customer experiences, and the delivery of product value
Help shape the organization's strategy for AI-assisted workflows, intelligent tooling, and AI-powered user experiences
Influence roadmaps, investment decisions, and operating models that support AI adoption across teams
Build Shared AI Capabilities and Infrastructure
Create reusable infrastructure, frameworks, APIs, and tooling that enable teams to build AI-powered experiences consistently and efficiently
Develop internal platforms and workflows that augment product development with AI capabilities
Establish scalable foundations that help teams move from experimentation to adoption
Evolve Experience Systems for the AI Era
Partner with design system engineers and designers to define patterns, standards, and interaction models for AI-powered experiences
Ensure AI experiences remain coherent, accessible, trustworthy, and usable across products
Explore how agents, copilots, and adaptive interfaces can become reusable capabilities across the product ecosystem
Prototype and Validate Emerging Concepts
Build prototypes and proof-of-concepts that explore new interaction models, intelligent workflows, and agent-driven experiences
Evaluate emerging technologies and approaches, including LLMs, agent frameworks, retrieval systems, orchestration tools, and evaluation methods
Use experimentation to inform long-term platform and product strategy
Translate successful prototypes into production-ready capabilities, partnering with teams to deliver real improvements to products, workflows, and user experiences
Identify and implement high-impact enhancements across design system tooling, AI-enabled workflows, and product experiences, balancing long-term platform investments with immediate user and developer needs
Enable Teams and Drive Adoption
Mentor engineers and designers working at the intersection of UX, systems thinking, and AI
Establish best practices for responsible AI development, governance, and human-in-the-loop systems
Help teams adopt new tools, workflows, and capabilities through coaching, collaboration, and shared standards
Qualifications:
8+ years of experience in software engineering, design engineering, design systems, creative technology, UX engineering, or related fields
Strong frontend engineering skills with modern web technologies and application architecture
Experience building AI-powered applications using LLM APIs and orchestration frameworks
Demonstrated ability to prototype quickly and think in systems
Strong understanding of interaction design, product thinking, and user experience principles
Experience building developer platforms, internal tools, or workflow systems
Ability to navigate ambiguity and operate effectively in 0-to-1 environments
Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
A systems-oriented mindset with strong product intuition
Valued Skills:
Experience with agent frameworks, retrieval systems, MCP servers, or multi-agent orchestration
Experience integrating AI into product development workflows
Familiarity with design systems and component architecture
Experience with evaluation pipelines, prompt engineering, or AI observability tooling
Background in computational design, creative tooling, or generative interfaces
Experience leading organizational transformation initiatives
