Pre-Sales Solutions Engineer
📍 New York, NY (SoHo) · Full-time · Hybrid (3-4 days/week onsite)
Why this role matters
Formance is a $21M Series A company backed by PayPal Ventures, building the financial infrastructure that powers the next generation of fintechs, banks, and digital platforms — already trusted by Coinbase, Fireblocks, and leading financial platforms across the US and Europe.
This role sits at the intersection of engineering depth and customer trust — you'll need real technical credibility to earn a seat at the table, and the communication skills to turn that credibility into a signed contract. It's for someone who'd rather sit across from a CTO or VP Engineering and speak their language than read from a deck.
You'll work closely with our founders and Sales team, acting as the technical bridge that turns a skeptical prospect's hardest questions into a signed contract.
What you'll actually do
Partner with our Account Executives to identify customer requirements and tailor Formance's platform to their specific architecture and use case.
Run expert-level demos and proofs of concept for technical and C-level stakeholders, showing exactly how Formance solves their ledgering, reconciliation, and payment orchestration challenges.
Go deep with prospects on their technical and business challenges, and act as a trusted advisor on how to best architect Formance into their stack.
Lead RFPs/RFIs and technical documentation as part of the sales cycle, and use AI tools like Claude to accelerate drafting and research on complex technical responses.
Serve as the feedback loop between sales, product, and engineering — what you hear from prospects directly shapes what gets built next.
Contribute to technical content (whitepapers, FAQs, case studies) that supports the broader sales motion.
What we're looking for
Must-haves:
3+ years of experience in pre-sales, solutions engineering, or hands-on software engineering — fintech or SaaS experience is a strong plus, but real engineering depth matters more than a sales background.
Comfortable going deep on payments or financial transaction systems, or picking that up fast.
Excellent communication skills — you can translate a complex technical concept for both an engineer and a CFO in the same conversation.
Experience in a fast-paced startup or scale-up environment, juggling multiple deals and priorities at once.
Comfortable using AI tools like Claude as part of your daily workflow for research, documentation, and prep.
What will set you apart:
A track record of being the person prospects trust to tell them the truth, not just close the deal.
A proactive mindset — you spot ways to improve the pre-sales process rather than waiting to be told.
Package
$170K OTE · Equity · 401(k) · Unlimited PTO · Health insurance · Annual team offsite in Europe
About Formance
We're building the infrastructure layer for modern money movement — the backend that lets fintechs, banks, and platforms move money without reinventing ledgering, reconciliation, or payment orchestration from scratch. Open-source at the core, Formance already powers financial operations for platforms operating at global scale, and we opened our New York office to bring that infrastructure directly to the US market. You'd be joining a small, high-conviction team where what you build directly shapes the roadmap.
