About us: The wholesale distribution industry is ready for a revolution, and Proton is leading the charge. The world relies on distributors to sell nearly every physical product, but despite its massive contribution to the global economy, this industry has been left behind in terms of technology. Proton is changing that. By providing AI-powered sales software, we’re breaking through the complexity of selling millions of products and making it easier for distributors to anticipate and fulfill customer needs. Our mission is to bring the distribution industry into the modern age and the results speak for themselves. Distributors using Proton see 10x ROI, faster new hire ramp-up, and happier sales teams.

In 2022, we raised a $20M Series A backed by Felicis Ventures (investors in Twitch, Shopify, Opendoor, and many others) and Battery Ventures. This year, we’re laser-focused on driving customer growth. If you’re excited about the opportunity to wear multiple hats, and continuously learn and experiment, now’s the time to join the Proton team.

About the position:

We are looking for a Pre-Sales Solutions Consultant / Solutions Engineer to partner with Account Executives in navigating complex sales cycles by delivering technical expertise, solution scoping, and outlining implementation strategy. This role requires both technical and business acumen to translate customer needs into detailed technical recommendations and solution designs.

Reporting to the VP of Sales, this person will contribute to Proton’s aggressive sales goals by ensuring high quality solutions are being properly scoped and positioned with customers. This person will have a direct impact on new sales revenue and successful implementations for new customers.

We are looking to hire someone in the greater Boston area who is open to a hybrid schedule, specifically working in our office 3 days per week.  Expected travel: 5-10 times per year for customer meetings, discovery sessions, and industry events.

What you’ll do:
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Account Executives during pre-sales to understand customer needs and define solution requirements.
  • Discovery & Analysis: Facilitate discovery sessions with prospects to uncover business challenges, workflows, and technical constraints.
  • Solution Design: Produce Solution Documents that act as Statements of Work (SOWs) for the Professional Services team.
  • Technical Expertise: Act as the technical point of contact during the sales cycle, addressing customer concerns and technical objections.
  • Professional Services Collaboration: Work with the Professional Services team to estimate costs for custom work and provide guidance on feasibility.
  • Product & Engineering Collaboration: Partner with Product and Engineering teams to provide customer-driven feedback on features and integrations.
  • Integration Design: Design high-level integration paths between Proton and third-party platforms, outlining API or SFTP data exchange methods to review with the Client Engineering team.
You'll be a great fit for this role if you have:
  • Business Acumen: Ability to align technical solutions with customer goals and business objectives.
  • Technical Acumen: Strong understanding of software pre-sales, solution consulting, or technical sales.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • System Integration Knowledge: Hands-on experience with API-based integrations and data exchange via SFTP.
  • Technical Documentation Skills: Ability to create clear, detailed Solution Documents and Statements of Work.
  • Ownership Mentality: Proactive problem-solving mindset and a commitment to seeing projects through to completion.
  • Enterprise Experience: Familiarity working with enterprise customers and addressing their technical and business needs.

Required experience:
  • 3- 5 years in a solutions consulting or sales engineering role within a B2B software environment.
  • Hands-on experience with API-based integrations and SFTP data exchanges.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex sales cycles, engaging with various stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to articulate technical concepts clearly.
  • Experience at a growth-stage SaaS company is strongly preferred.

Benefits

  • Competitive Salaries + Company Stock Options - we want to pay you well (and equitably!) and make you feel like an owner.
  • Unlimited PTO + 10 Company Paid Holidays - we even have tools implemented to detect burnout to make sure folks recharge regularly.
  • 401k with Employer Contribution (US only, for now!) - we know work isn’t forever, so we contribute up to 3% of your salary to help you prepare whether you directly contribute or not.
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance - we cover one medical plan 100% in the USA and cover a premium plan 100% for international employees (for US- this includes a HSA!) and cover 50% for dependents on all our medical plan options.
  • 12 Weeks Fully Paid Parental Leave - that goes for primary and secondary caregivers; even if you’re adopting or fostering!
  • Company Paid off-sites - time for us to be together, brainstorm, and make magic happen.
