Do you thrive on modernizing platforms and leading large-scale technical transformations? In this role, you’ll define and execute our roadmap from Azure/.NET to AWS/Java—while establishing architecture, design, and coding standards that drive consistency across teams and enable scalable, cloud-native delivery.

You’ll guide and support several teams across the full development lifecycle, ensuring aligned execution, strong engineering practices, and continuous delivery of value.

The Platform Owner is a member of the software engineering function at CFA Institute and serves as the champion and steward of applications developed and hosted across Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS) platforms. This position manages multiple agile delivery teams through all phases of the software development lifecycle to deliver and maintain scalable, secure, and reliable software solutions. The role defines and enforces architecture, design, and coding standards across the platform landscape.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the delivery and evolution of the platform—driving execution of our migration from Azure/.NET to AWS/Java while maintaining stability of existing systems.

  • Manage and support multiple agile teams—providing day-to-day guidance to technical leads and ensuring consistent, high-quality delivery across the SDLC.

  • Act as a hands-on technical SME—partnering with teams on architecture, design, and coding decisions across AWS, React, and Java.

  • Establish and reinforce engineering standards—driving best practices for scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions across both AWS and Azure environments.

  • Coordinate work across teams and stakeholders—ensuring alignment on priorities, dependencies, and the modernization roadmap.

  • Manage and reduce technical debt—prioritizing efforts that accelerate the transition away from legacy .NET services.

  • Support and grow engineering talent—onboarding and guiding FTEs and consultants while fostering strong engineering practices.

  • Contribute to solution design and experimentation—supporting high-level solutioning and leading proof-of-concept efforts for new capabilities.

  • Oversee platform operations—including environments, deployments, and troubleshooting production issues (with participation in on-call as needed).

  • Partner with vendors and evaluate tools—ensuring the platform is well-supported and continuously improving.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 8 plus years relevant experience in software architecture and development

  • 5 plus years relevant experience working with Azure/AWS

  • Strong experience with Java-based application architecture and cloud-native design

  • Prior hands-on experience with .NET sufficient to understand and lead modernization from Azure/.NET systems (this role is not intended to continue a .NET-centric platform strategy)

  • Demonstrated experience leading large-scale cloud migration or technology transformation initiatives

  • Significant experience with leading people toward departmental and technical objectives

  • Experience with deployment to and management of Azure/AWS environments.

  • Extensive experience in the following disciplines – Application Architecture, Information Modeling, Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), Object Oriented Programming, Quality Assurance, and Branch Management

Please note that we are not able to provide sponsorship at this time. No agencies, please.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
