Your Impact at Lila

We're seeking an engineer to build the infrastructure that powers our AI Science Factory (AISF™). You'll integrate the lab with the cloud and build the tools that let our team ship robotic experiments in keystrokes. This role is about making things work in the real world—one day you're deploying a web app to AWS, the next you're figuring out why computers in the lab can't reach it. You'll work with a small team where at-a-minimum tested code matters, version 0.0.X is home for now. This role is 60% cloud packaged code development, 40% watching it fail in the lab and debugging next to the machine. While this role is titled Platform Engineer, we need someone who jumps into any engineering challenge that arises—we'll push you to grow across the full engineering stack as the team and product evolve.

What You'll Be Building

  • Build and deploy applications to production—ship MVPs to AWS, iterate based on real usage
  • Debug infrastructure problems in distributed systems: networking, containers, firewalls, private network access
  • Help deploy tested packaged libraries to help the team solve problems fast.
  • Create simple abstractions that make the whole team more productive fixing and pushing code fixes from the lab.
  • Enable all teammates through pair programming, git basics, and tooling that works

What You’ll Need to Succeed

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field (recent grads welcome)
  • Strong CS fundamentals and curiosity about how systems work from application to network layer
  • Comfortable with version control (git), command line tools, and debugging methodologies
  • Self-motivated team player who values collaboration and doesn't stop at "it doesn't work"
  • Bias toward shipping, learning by doing, and iterating based on real feedback

Bonus Points For

  • Programming: The language shouldn't matter; change data into data, build tools, automate tasks, write maintainable code, understand interpreted and compiled.
  • Testing: Writing unit tests, integration tests, understanding why tests enable velocity
  • Git & Workflows: Branching, merging, pull requests, keeping clean history—teaching others the essentials
  • Cloud/Infrastructure: Basic deployments, containers, networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP)
  • Debugging: Reading logs, tracing requests, isolating problems, figuring out why things break
