Directly supervises and leads a high-functioning team of risk placement professionals. Responsible for the overall function of marketing, underwriting, and placement of new business accounts submitted by the Sales Team and the consistent quality output of the Risk Placement team. The Risk Placement Department Director maintains and fosters a positive working relationship with insurance carrier marketing, underwriting and support staff; has in-depth knowledge of markets, products, and coverages; and serves as a resource in this capacity for the Marketing and Risk Placement Analysts and Sales Executives. The Risk Placement Department Director also fosters effective communication and information-sharing with Business Insurance Service staff and management, Business Insurance Sales staff and management, and Senior Management, and ultimately achieves exceeds-expectations delivery of service. 

Primary Functions: 

Directly supervises and leads a high-functioning team of risk placement professionals. Responsible for the overall function of marketing, underwriting, and placement of new business accounts submitted by the Sales Team and the consistent quality output of the Risk Placement team. The Risk Placement Department Director maintains and fosters a positive working relationship with insurance carrier marketing, underwriting and support staff; has in-depth knowledge of markets, products, and coverages; and serves as a resource in this capacity for the Marketing and Risk Placement Analysts and Sales Executives. The Risk Placement Department Director also fosters effective communication and information-sharing with Business Insurance Service staff and management, Business Insurance Sales staff and management, and Senior Management, and ultimately achieves exceeds-expectations delivery of service. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Manages Risk Placement staff with focus on company goals and objectives 

  • Ensures that all Risk Placement staff member are properly trained and executing their jobs in accordance with agency policies and procedures as established 

  • Works with management to define targeted strategic agency growth plans to maximize revenue while quoting and recommending ultimate P&C protection for existing clients and prospects 

  • Drives placement strategies, reviews and analyses performance, drives actions for improvement, and implements efficient and productivity enhancing tools and processes 

  • Minimizes company risks by facilitating and managing the peer audit process with the Risk Placement team 

  • Listens, motivates and manages in a respectful, professional and courteous manner 

  • Supports and encourages staff in matters of workload, performance and responsibilities.  

  • Individually and collectively recognizes good performance and achievements 

  • Promotes agency culture and core values to foster and promote positive morale   

  • Identifies personnel issues, and performance or training gaps 

  • Acts as resource to staff for coverage, questions, troubleshooting and resolution of issues 

  • Delegates and manages the workload of the team to ensure consistent delivery of service 

  • Briefs and informs staff on ongoing Agency and carrier information, updates, announcements and all other communications as needed 

  • Facilitates relationships with executives, managers, sales, and operational teams to foster a team environment with ultimate focus on delivery of world-class marketing and risk placement services 

  • Maintains positive working relationship with company marketing, underwriting, management, and support staff. 

  • Responsible to manage the pipeline of new business.  Act as triage for new submissions based on workload, specialized knowledge, etc.  

  • Attends and participates in Agency and carrier meetings and functions    

  • Provides to the Sales and/or Service Management any suggestions for improved interdepartmental efficiency, service, and communication. 

  • Keeps Sales Manager up-to-date with status of Marketing Pipeline. 

  • Continues to build on knowledge on and serves as a resource for market intelligence, products, and coverages for the  Risk Placement Analysts, Director, Business Insurance and Sales Executives 

  • Responsible for maintain efficient and effective workflows.  Any changes need to be approved through collaboration with Sales and Service management 

  • Works in conjunction with the Sales Management to ensure a cohesive relationship between the Sales and Risk Placement Teams     

  • Alerts Sales Management to any issues or behaviors that may expose the Agency to E&O loss or loss of good reputation. 

  • Participate in educational and self-development programs determined to be beneficial to the career development of this position 

  • Participate in the selection of new Risk Placement employees 

  • Review staff performance and conduct formal performance appraisals 

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Ability to negotiate and persuade

  • Maintain confidentiality with personnel, carriers and clientele information and situations 

  • General computer knowledge, with proficiency in Outlook, Word, and internet navigation. 

  • 5-7 years of Commercial insurance experience 

  • Comprehensive experience and thorough understanding in all areas of Commercial insurance 

  • Active license in Property/Casualty  

  • Commitment to educational development  

  • High School degree or GED equivalent.  College degree preferred. 

  • Ability to work off hours as required; flexible work schedule
