The Performance & Prediction Engineer II will be responsible for overseeing the optimization and enhancement of PV energy and performance prediction models.

Position Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Stresses the importance that safety is the most important function, ensures that all employees from field team to office follow safe practices while working.

  • Collaborate with fellow Performance Engineers and Performance Managers identifying areas of needed modeling enhancements based on feedback loop from EPC and O&M teams.

  • Assist Performance and Engineering Team in day-to-day coordination during RFP, design, contract and commissioning phases of EPC projects

  • Act as subject matter expert for PV production modeling within the company with advanced knowledge of detailed simulation methodologies and loss assumptions

  • Create and maintain accurate system performance models in PVsyst

  • Perform and track different simulations in the PVsyst such:

    • Impacts of terrain

    • Horizon losses

    • Tree or external shading

    • Snow, Soiling and Spectral Losses

  • Validate performance modeling tools and assumptions through data analysis, field experiments, and other research methods

  • Verify project drawings including site plans, system layout, one lines, cable management, and equipment installation details for understanding impacts to energy generation and applicable updates to account and model these impacts

  • Optimize modeling assumptions based on calculations and analysis of energy losses and system performance incurred from operational environment events such as soiling, snow, tree shading, etc. and communicate impacts to relevant internal and external teams.

  • Work with internal and external engineering teams for the preparation of energy models based on provided electrical sets

  • Maintain clear and accurate documents/procedures for internal reference and training purposes

  • Innovate, and solve challenging technical problems with a positive, solution-oriented approach

  • Run and evaluate PV system energy models for Utility Scale Solar PV Projects using PVsyst or other modeling software as needed.

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of simulation software (e.g. PVsyst, PlantPredict, PVlib, SAM, etc.) and industry best practices and/or pros/cons of different modeling tools.

  • Execute all tasks as assigned while maintaining accurate and up-to-date status notes with applicable team workflows.

  • Facilitate project deep dive reviews and ad-hoc modeling requests to address and understand deviations in project performance in operations vs. model.

  • Work with Jr. Performance Software Developer and Performance Engineering Managers in assisting and supporting enhanced performance engineering tool developments utilizing PVlib and other python based simulation tools.

  • Help review Owner provided energy models during the on-boarding of O&M projects to help Jr. Performance Engineers, Performance Engineers, and Performance Engineering Managers of atypical or unrealistic modeling assumptions/practices.

  • Identify operational issues and initiate problem resolution while working with OEM vendors, field technicians, EORs, and other parties as needed

  • Work with OEMs such as inverter and module manufacturers to ensure correct versioning of OND and PAN files are maintained

  • Familiarity and experience with working with shade scene analysis creation in PVsyst and/or importation of compatible shade scenes from other 3rd party software

  • Grow into a role of subject matter expertise in PV power plants.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or another related technical field

  • 3+ Years’ experience in PV Performance Engineering or data analytics

  • 3+ Years’ experience in modeling using software like PVSyst, PlantPredict, SAM, and so on

  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and other Office tools

  • Experience with programming languages like Python, VBA, MATLAB, Java, and others preferred

  • Ability to travel up to 20% of time

  • Broad understanding of the Renewable Energy industry with emphasis on Service and Construction preferred

  • Foster a spirit of collaboration between teams

  • Experience working for a diverse multi-disciplined company

  • Strong communication skills to clearly articulate vision into an executable plan and clearly communicate details and thoughts to internal/external clients

  • Entrepreneurial spirit and passion for problem solving

Compensation Range:

$117,678.00 - $141,214.00
