Summary
The Payroll Expert is a regional subject matter authority who owns the end-to-end payroll lifecycle and ensures compliance for a specific country or region. This role requires deep technical expertise in local payroll regulations, system implementations, and direct client communication and management. The expert acts as the primary resource for complex payroll matters while proactively driving continuous improvement in global payroll processes.
Responsibilities
Own End-to-End Payroll Operations for your designated country/region, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll execution, including salary, benefits, and deductions.
Client Relationship Management: Serve as the main point of contact for complex client payroll inquiries, providing expert guidance, managing expectations, and ensuring seamless service delivery.
Operational Ticketing & Issue Resolution: Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of support tickets in Zendesk to ensure timely and effective resolution of client and employee queries.
Submit and track JIRA tickets to the Engineering and Product teams for system improvements, bug fixes, and new product requirements related to local payroll processes.
Compliance & Reporting: Prepare, validate, and reconcile internal payroll reports and filings, guaranteeing timely submission and full compliance with local tax authorities and statutory bodies.
Process & System Implementation: Evaluate, select, and implement relevant local payroll software, ensuring integration with Deel product technology requirements and driving maximum process efficiency.
Critical Payroll Processes: Setting up deductions, supporting the onboarding and offboarding of employees on record.
Payroll Reconciliation: Execute and validate payroll reconciliations using Gross-to-Net reports to ensure accuracy of all disbursements, liabilities, and client expense collections.
Regulatory Intelligence: Proactively monitor, communicate, and implement changes based on new local regulatory and policy developments across internal cross-functional teams.
Cross-Functional Expertise: Act as the subject matter expert, providing consultation and technical guidance to internal teams and external teams on payroll matters.
Process Improvement: Continuously assess and improve rapid growth processes and procedures to scale efficiency, accuracy, and compliance standards.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
3 to 5 years of professional experience in payroll and HR, with deep, relevant experience in the designated country/region.
Strong working knowledge of local labor laws, tax regulations, and statutory policies related to payroll in the relevant jurisdiction.
Proven experience managing external clients or vendors in a payroll services capacity.
Ability to expertly manage and prioritize multiple complex tasks while meeting strict, time-sensitive deadlines.
Advanced proficiency in local payroll software solutions. Experience with implementation or migration is a strong advantage.
Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets.
Strong proficiency in English (both written and verbal); multilingual skills relevant to the region are a plus.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical issues to clients and stakeholders clearly and simply.
