RATE OF PAY $65.97 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY

The Overhead Electrical Hot Stick Troubleshooter is responsible for the operation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of electric transmission and distribution systems to ensure service continuity and system reliability. This role is primarily field‑based and often performed under abnormal or emergency system conditions.

Work includes both energized and de‑energized lines and equipment at all voltage levels, utilizing Eversource‑approved work methods, tools, and equipment. The Troubleshooter is expected to exercise sound independent judgment while maintaining strict adherence to safety standards and fostering a strong safety culture at all times.

Work is performed in substations, buildings, and the field, involving inspection, operation, troubleshooting, and restoration of faulty or unsafe conditions on transmission, distribution, and street lighting systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties of the Overhead Hot Stick Troubleshooter include, but are not limited to:

  • Locate and isolate electrical system failures using primary and secondary fault‑locating equipment, primarily on overhead and URD systems, and occasionally on underground systems when required
  • Operate switching devices on overhead systems, pad‑mounted equipment, and, when necessary, within manholes and vaults
  • Clear unsafe or faulty conditions and restore electrical service in emergency and non‑emergency situations
  • Connect, disconnect, and operate portable transformers, generators, and temporary primary jumpers to restore service
  • Replace failed single‑phase transformers (≤ 50 kVA) with assistance from another qualified employee
  • Perform short‑duration maintenance tasks, including battery replacement, control cable replacement, and similar activities
  • Replace damaged or faulty services as a single‑person crew during initial response or follow‑up corrective maintenance
  • Reinstall single‑phase primary conductors independently and three‑phase primary conductors as part of a multi‑person crew (excluding spacer cable messenger work)
  • Install, inspect, and repair rubber protective equipment
  • Operate and adjust overhead and pad‑mounted control equipment
  • Conduct overhead distribution, transmission, and right‑of‑way patrols and inspections
  • Perform overhead and pad‑mounted equipment inspections

SAFETY & STANDARDS

  • Perform all work in a safe, efficient, and productive manner
  • Adhere to all Eversource standards, procedures, and approved work methods
  • Deliver high‑quality workmanship while maintaining system reliability
  • Assume the responsibilities of all lower classifications of Overhead Line Worker, as required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Valid CDL Class B Driver’s License required to operate commercial motor vehicles

2. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and thorough knowledge of electric transmission and distribution systems

3. Proven ability to work safely, independently, and under pressure, with a work history reflecting strong safety practices

4. Successful completion of EEI CAST testing, a technical and behavioral interview, a knowledge‑based examination, and a physical pre‑screen

5. Ability to perform moderately heavy physical work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extended periods

6. Minimum of three (3) years of Journeyman Overhead Lineman experience, including work on energized and de‑energized lines, with a strong understanding of operating and construction standards

7. High School Diploma or Equivalent
