Job Summary: A Outside Sales Representative (OSR) for Cape Cod Lumber is a field-based professional responsible for driving sales of construction materials- such as lumber, doors & windows, exterior envelope products, interior door & trim- by building relationships with contractors, builders, and remodelers. The role is primarily customer-facing, with approximately 80% of the time spent in the field visiting job sites and contractor offices.
Responsibilities
- Proactively research prospective customers as sales leads, based on information from building reports, business directories, networking and follow-up on referrals
- Daily travel to assigned territory identifying prospective customers & continue building relationships with active business partners
- Act as the business consultant to existing accounts, providing product recommendations and updates on market trends
- Stay current with new products and building codes
- Develop and maintain relationships with vendor contacts
- Demonstrate product knowledge, using samples and emphasize profitable features
- Manage the full sales cycle of a project, from initial outreach to closing deals
- Responsible for all materials ordered and the profitability for each build
- Communicate with Estimating & Engineering department on materials needed for all projects
- Work with credit department following CCL’s terms & policies to open & maintain customers’ accounts
- Coordinate with inside sales team to ensure quotes & orders are accurate and up to date
- Continuous, open communication with the customer, ensuring timely delivery of products to job sites
- Investigates and resolves customer complications with deliveries, products and other services
Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience in building materials/construction and outside sales
- Deep understanding of residential or commercial construction products and the ability to read blueprints
- Effective negotiation, presentation and time management skills
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects efficiently
- Basic computer skills, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Experience with Epicor BisTrack software is a plus
- A valid driver's license and clean driving record
- High school diploma or GED
Salary
$42,900 base salary + robust commission plan
