Optical Systems Architect
Description
The Digital Healthcare business group seeks an optics/imaging expert to drive the development of a novel imaging platform in support of its Biosensors strategy. This platform can be customized with integrated circuits, light sources, and packaging to enable unique value propositions in a variety of biological, medical and pharmaceutical applications. The product family is expected to play a critical role in adding an exciting new axis of exploration and measurement to workhorse technology in the biomedical space.
The successful candidate will oversee the development, adaptation, modification and evaluation of the imaging platform for biomedical applications. The candidate will own the design, modelling, verification, and characterization functions. The candidate will need broad exposure in imaging systems development and testing, in particular with applications to novel spectroscopy approaches. S/he will need a distinguished track record in multiphysics design and experimental evaluation, demonstrating innovation in both domains. Deep knowledge of optics and optical system integration with associated electronics is essential.
The candidate must have excellent communication skills and a team-first mentality, and s/he will work with diverse colleagues across multiple geographic sites.
Roles & Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Determine the key engineering changes required to make the adaptation of the existing technology to novel applications successful
- Provide leadership for a team responsible for all aspects of the imaging platform development, including:
- Optics development of lenses and modulated light sources
- Integration of electronics with the optical elements
- Software and firmware development required to support the technology development and eventual product
- Experimental strategies for technology characterization and evaluation
- Data managements and analysis
- Failure analysis
- Oversee the successful execution of the relevant functions, resulting in product releases to biomedical customers
- Work with peers to establish technology and product roadmaps
- Innovate to help establish a comprehensive IP portfolio across all aspects of imaging & sensing: design, materials, manufacturing, signal processing, fluidics, and test.
Qualifications & Requirements
Required:
- MS or PhD in Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or Optics
- 10+ years of experience optical instrument R&D
- 5+ years of management experience with a record of developing talent and establishing a collaborative work culture
- Expertise in optical design and modelling approaches and tools
- Strong teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills coupled with a demonstrated ability to work at a high level of performance both independently and in teams.
- High levels of motivation and creativity, with an outgoing, positive attitude.
- An inquisitive nature and willingness to tackle multiple disciplinary challenges.
- Demonstrated record of innovation, execution, and results, with high standards for performance.
Desired:
- Experience with ISO 13485 quality standard for medical devices.

Shift Type: 1st Shift/DaysThe expected wage range for a new hire into this position is $125,250 to $187,875.
Actual wage offered may vary depending on work location, experience, education, training, external market data, internal pay equity, or other bona fide factors.
This position qualifies for a discretionary performance-based bonus which is based on personal and company factors.
