The Senior Manager, Sourcing, North America position is a highly collaborative role on the Workhuman eCommerce team that partners on cross-functional initiatives with Buying, Merchandising, Operations, and Technology to define the overarching strategy for developing Workhuman's extensive merchandise selection on our North American stores - what our offering should look like and the roadmap for how we get there. In this role, you will focus on optimizing the eCommerce merchandise catalog through building relationships with industry-leading suppliers and managing critical cross-functional workflows to support these partnerships. Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute integrated new merchandise partner onboarding strategy and process, building on existing foundation and determining optimal assortment to maximize revenue and profitability growth
- Set assortment expansion goals and closely manage the inputs to fill open selection gaps in our catalog, engaging directly with suppliers/prospects and collaborating with key stakeholders across the eComm team along the way
- Drive pricing and terms negotiations with key suppliers, leading by example in coaching and developing a team on negotiation and persuasive communication skills
- Infuse analytics into our catalog strategy to drive both strategic and day-to-day decisions, utilizing a combination of internal purchase and site metrics, market data and trends, and competitive analyses
- Build a robust merchandise expansion strategy that incorporates relevant, on-trend assortments that inspire and delight our clients and users, while delivering on scale and margin goals
- Identify opportunities for strategic expansion beyond current categories - including goods, services, and/or experiences that will excite our customers and differentiate our offering
- Partner with eCommerce Product and Technology teams to design and develop technology enhancements to support better management of the merchandise offering
- Collaborate with additional cross-functional teams to deliver on plans and constantly evolve our offering - including Sales, Customer Success, Marketing, Creative, Operations, and Customer Service
- Support client and prospect needs by serving as the expert on our merchandise offering and providing regular data, presentations, and general input into sales and retention pitches and incorporating client needs and interests into our merchandise strategy
- Build, manage, and mentor a team of sourcing managers and/or specialists to deliver on ambitious goals
- Serve as internal expert on our offering, industry trends, and ways to stay ahead of the competition
Requirements & Qualifications:
- 7+ years of retail / eCommerce / merchandising or consulting experience
- Highly articulate and persuasive communication skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent ability to negotiate and manage both internal and external relationships with key stakeholders and C-suite level contacts
- Proven experience in vendor sourcing and/or management - able to communicate effectively, negotiate pricing/relationship terms, and sell partners on strategic roadmap to improve company profitability and customer experience
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills
- P&L / general management experience preferred - demonstrates mature instincts around high-level business performance and levers
- Flexible, highly collaborative self-starter who can make an impact with little structure or foundation
- Creative & innovate problem-solver
- Entrepreneurial leader who can both set the vision and the plan and execute on the details and get the job done - healthy balance of strategic and tactical focus and abilities
- Adept at developing complex cross-functional solutions & processes involving a diverse set of senior stakeholders
- Experience leading and developing a highly skilled team of negotiators & decision-makers
