What this job involves:

Join JLL's facilities management team as an Operating Engineer, where you'll be the technical backbone ensuring optimal performance of mission-critical building systems and data center operations. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with exceptional client service, supporting commercial properties and critical infrastructure across multiple sites. You'll maintain 24/7 operational excellence while contributing directly to JLL's reputation for delivering world-class facility management services. As a multi-skilled professional, you'll troubleshoot complex systems, execute preventive maintenance programs, and build lasting client relationships that drive business growth and retention.

What your day-to-day will look like:
  • System Operations & Maintenance: Operate, maintain, and optimize HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems across commercial buildings and data centers to ensure uninterrupted operations
  • Preventive Maintenance Execution: Perform comprehensive PM programs on critical equipment including data center infrastructure, safety systems, and building automation controls
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Diagnose system malfunctions, perform repairs, and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime and maintain optimal equipment performance
  • Data Management & Documentation: Maintain accurate records in BMS and work order systems, document equipment readings, and generate performance reports for client review
  • Vendor Coordination & Project Support: Collaborate with contractors on maintenance projects, monitor work quality and costs, and support capital improvement initiatives
  • Client Service Delivery: Provide responsive day-to-day support for client requests, minor repairs (including carpet repair), and technical consultation while maintaining professional communication
  • Multi-Site Operations: Travel between client locations to ensure consistent service delivery and maintain equipment across multiple facilities
Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent with 2-5 years of commercial building maintenance or industrial facilities experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in HVAC systems operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting with strong multi-trade capabilities (electrical, plumbing, mechanical)
  • Proficiency with Building Management Systems (BMS) and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
  • Ability to analyze complex commercial/industrial building systems, identify malfunctions, and implement corrective actions independently
  • Valid driver's license with reliable transportation for multi-site travel requirements
  • Physical capability to perform manual tasks, lift equipment, and work in various environmental conditions including confined spaces
  • Knowledge of safety protocols for hazardous materials handling, disposal, and maintaining OSHA-compliant work environments
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Trade certification, technical degree, or apprenticeship completion in HVAC, electrical, or mechanical systems
  • Data center or critical facilities experience with mission-critical infrastructure operations
  • EPA certifications (Universal CFC refrigerant handling) and additional safety training credentials
  • Experience with energy management systems, sustainability initiatives, and building performance optimization
  • Basic knowledge of fire/life safety systems, building automation controls, and preventive maintenance software
  • Customer service experience in commercial real estate or facilities management environment
  • Familiarity with inventory management, procurement processes, and vendor relationship management

Estimated total compensation for this position:

70,000.00 – 76,000.00 USD per year

The total compensation range is an estimate and not guaranteed. An employment offer is based on an applicant's education, experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, internal equity and alignment with market data .
