About the Opportunity

The Department of Art + Design in the College of Arts, Media, and Design invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track Teaching Professor in Design at the rank of Assistant, or Associate, or Full. All classes will be taught at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. We seek an innovative colleague eager to contribute to the growth and creative evolution of the undergraduate and graduate design programs.

The full-time faculty member will develop and teach courses in creative fabrication, focusing on foundational and advanced practices that integrate themes such as sustainability, computational design, and artificial intelligence. The role involves contributing to the creative fabrication curriculum by designing coursework that addresses topics such as participatory fabrication practices, experimental approaches to making, physical computing, and sustainable materials. A successful candidate is an engaged maker with a strong record of professional practice/research, who demonstrates an expansive view of the field of design.

Responsibilities

The full-time faculty member will be responsible for teaching foundational and advanced courses in creative fabrication in the Department of Art + Design. Responsibilities include creating and delivering 1- and 2-credit short-form courses to build essential making and fabrication skills for undergraduate and graduate students. In addition to teaching, all full-time faculty are expected to contribute to the cultural life and function of the program through service commitments on committees, special projects, and student advising and engagement activities.

A full course load with a 1.0 FTE appointment will be three 4-credit courses per semester (6 in total) or the equivalent, with the opportunity to teach in the summer (May-August) for extra compensation. The position's standard duties consist of 80% teaching, 10% service and 10% creative practice.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a terminal degree in the anticipated focus areas of teaching. Rank as an Assistant, Associate or Full teaching professor will be assessed in consideration of the candidate’s previous teaching experience and creative practice and/or research experience.

Pay Range:

Assistant Teaching Professor: $61,000 - $75,000 | Associate Teaching Professor: $70,000 - $88,000 | Teaching Professor: $77,000 - $97,000

With the pay range(s) shown above, the starting salary will depend on several factors, which may include your education, experience, location, knowledge and expertise, and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role. Salary ranges are reviewed regularly and are subject to change.
