Job Title: New England Program Manager

Reports to:  Sr. Program Manager

Status: Full-Time Exempt, Permanent

Salary: $62,000-$68,000 Annually

Location: Hybrid-Remote (New England)


Position Summary:

The Student Conservation Association (SCA) provides an array of internship and corps programming across the country. The Program Manager (PM)  SCA New England position is responsible for ensuring the safe, complete, and quality execution of SCA’s New England program portfolio in accordance with the uniform practices and procedures established by the Senior Vice President of Program, AmeriCorps Director, and National Program Manager – State AmeriCorps. SCA members in this program will serve across New England to address critical conservation needs that benefit the lands and people of the region 

The PM is responsible for delivering an exceptional experience for participants through direct support of local SCA program staff. The PM works cross-departmentally to develop a seamless experience from selection of candidates to completion of the program in which they are participating. The PM collaborates with the Training, Education, and Evaluation teams to ensure that all materials developed for the member experience support the mission and goals of SCA and our partnering organizations. The PM also works closely with the SCA Risk & Safety Team to be sure New England Programming is aligned with SCA’s Program StandardsThey are responsible for AmeriCorps compliant program implementation which requires being knowledgeable in AmeriCorps protocols and grant provisions. This position reports to the Senior Program Manager- SCA New England.  

 

Job Responsibilities:

Program Planning & Delivery

  • Support program’s primary member recruitment activities including developing position postings and program marketing. 
  • Responsible for assisting HR as requested with the SCA onboarding requirements of field leaders, staff, and program participants. Review all onboarding documents for staff and program participants to ensure accuracy and compliance. 
  • Develop and maintain appropriate systems for program implementation.  
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures, including weekly time-keeping, narrative reporting, and other SCA requirements. 
  • Develop specialized curriculum and member training schedules in consultation with program partners and SCA’s Education and Training team, and local program staff. 
  • Schedule and manage contracts with external trainers.  
  • Schedule with supervisors and SCA staff to initiate consistent member mid and end of term evaluations. 
  • Manage the program’s data collection tools and process to assure accurate field data is obtained and reported. Train staff in the data collection timeline and process.  
  • Support the development and tracking of SCA New England program budgets via consultation with partnership, program, and finance staff. 
  • Ensure members are complying with partner/SCA expectations, AmeriCorps guidelines, and the program’s defined performance measures and service objectives. 
  • Conduct program site visits in coordination with SCA New England staff, project partners, and other SCA departments 
  • Ensure that program sites are functioning within AmeriCorps compliance. 
  • Monitor program delivery for successful outcomes related to quality and safety. 
  • Support a culture of safety and inclusion for all program staff and members. 
  • Report, track, and respond to incidents in accordance with SCA policies and procedures. 
  • Participate in the SCA's emergency response system for SCA New England Programs through on-call support during program operations, including on weekends and holidays.  
  • Develop member/staff performance plans and determine proper disciplinary action when deemed necessary. 
  • Assist Senior Program Manager (SPM) with grant applications, program proposals, and related management tasks.  

Program Improvements

  • Work closely with SCA staff and external partners to identify opportunities for improvement, with an emphasis on fostering an environment where every individual feels valued, supported, and empowered to contribute to their fullest potential. 
  • Review SCA and partner risk management policies and serve as the key personnel in decision making regarding adjustments and changes to policies and procedures via consultation with program partners and SCA’s Director of Risk Management. 
  • Liaise with SCA’s Risk Management department to monitor incident trends to improve quality of safety, adherence to mandatory administrative requirements and curriculum requirements. 

Engagement

  • Work cross-departmentally to develop program models, goals, content, and performance outcomes that align with SCA and partner goals. 
  • Attend State AmeriCorps team meetings, as well as any relevant internal program department meetings. 
  • In coordination with SPM New England, attend as SCA representative, required trainings and meetings for the SCA New England programs including AmeriCorps State Commission events and trainings 
  • Build and maintain alumni network in concert with or as requested by the Director of Alumni. 

Qualifications: 

  • 4-8 years of progressively responsible experience including skills related to the position such as program management, extensive leadership in an outdoor setting, experience working with programmatic partners, and grant/budget management. 
  • Experience managing a Corps and/or AmeriCorps or similar grant funded program preferred. 
  • Strong communication skills when working with various external and internal partners. 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail. 
  • Experience working with young adults from racially and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds. 
  • Knowledge of conservation, climate action, and sustainability. 
  • Demonstrated team leadership and supervisory experience. 
  • Current and valid 16-hour first aid (FA) or wilderness first aid (WFA; or equivalent) and CPR certification, or ability to obtain. 
  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability and be adaptable to various competing demands. 
  • Salesforce experience a plus. 
  • Ability to travel approximately 25%-35% of time including multi-day/overnight trips for programmatic needs such as attending required trainings, programmatic site visits, onsite member/staff support, and partner meetings
