The Multimedia Producer will oversee video production, light animation, and project management for an educational animated series, collaborating with various creators and managing freelancers.
About the role:
- Newsela and Generation Genius are launching a bold new animated video series, and we’re looking for a versatile, hands-on Multimedia Producer to join us at the ground floor.
- As our first full-time multimedia team member, you’ll play a key role in shaping the creative and production processes that will define this new studio effort.
- You’ll collaborate closely with the Director of Multimedia to bring our educational vision to life, handling everything from post-production to light animation, audio and video shoot direction, and freelancer coordination.
- This is a unique opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, startup-like environment within an established and mission-driven company.
Why you'll love the role:
- Video Editing: Cut and assemble video content from scratch, combining live action, animation, stock, VO, and music to deliver highly engaging, polished videos for classroom use.
- Basic Animation & Motion Graphics: Create light animation, kinetic text, and visual effects using tools like After Effects.
- Graphic Design Support: Edit and format assets in Photoshop and Illustrator, including thumbnails, title cards, storyboards, style frames, and other visual collateral.
- Shoot Direction & Support: Assist in planning, directing, and capturing professional video and audio sessions (VO, talent shoots, interviews, music recording).
- Project Management: Help manage production timelines, coordinate with freelance editors, illustrators, and animators, and track assets through delivery.
- Creative Collaboration: Work closely with writers, musicians, illustrators, and internal subject matter experts to align visuals with educational goals and brand tone.
- Studio Building: Support the development of workflows, asset libraries, studio gear selection, and onboarding new collaborators as the team grows.
- A creative problem-solver with strong editing chops and a passion for visual storytelling.
- A multimedia generalist who’s comfortable jumping between video, animation, design, and production planning.
- A great communicator and collaborator who can work closely with artists, educators, and producers—and provide clear feedback to freelancers.
- Comfortable both on set and in the edit bay, with a strong sense of pacing, visual flow, and audience needs (especially K–12 learners).
- Organized and proactive, with strong attention to detail and ability to manage shifting priorities.
- 3–6 years of experience in multimedia production (video editing, basic animation, content creation)
- You have experience in educational media, children’s content, or animation pipelines
- You are proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud, especially Premiere, After Effects, and Photoshop
- You are familiar with audio direction and video production workflows
- You have strong organizational and communication skills
- Preferred: You have experience working with or managing freelancers
- While this role is primarily remote, there is a preference for candidates based in or around NYC
Base compensation: $88,700 - $90,000
Total compensation for this role also includes incentive stock options and benefits. This compensation range may be adjusted based on actual experience.
