Deep Origin is a biotechnology company accelerating drug discovery through AI-powered tools. Our platforms simplify R&D, simulate biology, and empower scientists to solve diseases and extend healthspan.

We are looking for a Scientist whose role will be applying agent-based modeling approaches to multicellular systems (i.e., individual cells as agents, interacting with each other and the microenvironment). You will construct multicellular organ models used to predict relevant organ-level toxicities to known and novel drugs, and work with other members of the cellular simulations team to integrate intracellular and molecular modeling approaches and insights into the agent-based multicellular system.

Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

Requirements
    • PhD in a relevant quantitative field (Biology, Computer Science, Math, Physics, Engineering, etc.).
    • Experience constructing multicellular models (in any context) from scratch or with agent-based modeling packages.
    • Extensive coding experience in Python.
    • Experience with agent-based/multicellular/spatial modeling frameworks and approaches.
    • Fluent English for collaboration with an international team.
    • Ability to work on US time zones when needed.

Nice to have:

    • Experience with intestinal or organ modeling.
    • Machine learning experience, and in particular, surrogatizing biological systems.
    • Embedding ODE/PDE-based kinetic models into agent-based representations.
    • Experience with high-performance computing (multi-node computing, parallel algorithms) and GPU computation.

Responsibilities:

    • Construct agent-based multicellular organ models for the intestine and liver, utilizing and building on state-of-the-art published models from academia and industry.
    • Be the subject matter expert on agent-based multicellular modeling, ensuring the Cellular Simulations team stays at the forefront of current research.
    • Plan and organize work to ensure specific deadlines and milestones are met, coordinating with others to ensure work is correctly aligned and integrated with other efforts.
    • Communicate effectively within the company and external teams, updating others frequently on progress and bottlenecks.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
