Produce UI-focused explainer animations in After Effects from Figma source files, prepare vector assets in Illustrator, export optimized video deliverables, and collaborate with producers/designers via Slack and Notion. About the Client
A client-first creative studio that builds data-informed video marketing and animated explainer content for growing brands. They focus on authentic, high-quality product videos and UI-focused animations that drive engagement and conversions. The team values collaboration, creativity, and working behind the scenes to deliver polished work for clients.
Why does this role exist?
We’re hiring a Motion Designer to produce product explainer and UI animation assets that clearly demonstrate product interactions and workflows. This role exists to scale the studio’s capacity to deliver consistent, high-quality UI-focused animations (mouse clicks, micro-interactions, on-screen flows) while allowing the creative and client-facing teams to focus on strategy and client relationships. The Motion Designer will work closely with producers and designers to execute animations that match client specs, brand guidelines, and project timelines.
The Impact you’ll make
Core motion design
- Create UI-focused explainer animations in After Effects that showcase product flows, mouse clicks, and interface interactions.
- Produce clean, polished micro-interactions and transitions that read clearly at typical video sizes.
- Export and deliver final comps optimized for client use (mp4/web, layered files as required).
UI & asset preparation
- Import and work from Figma files to recreate UI elements and layouts for animation.
- Edit and create vector assets in Adobe Illustrator when needed for motion-ready elements.
- Organize layered files and source assets for efficient handoffs and future edits.
Collaboration & workflow
- Coordinate with creative producers and designers via Slack and Notion to clarify specs, timelines, and feedback.
- Follow project briefs, style guides, and internal review processes to ensure consistency and quality.
- Maintain version control and clear file naming in shared drives.
Quality control & iteration
- Implement feedback from internal reviews and iterate quickly to meet delivery deadlines.
- Ensure animations are technically clean (timing, easing, continuity) and conform to client UX expectations.
- Prepare short demo clips and internal review assets for stakeholder sign-off.
Process improvement (ongoing)
- Contribute templates, presets, and best practices to speed production of recurrent UI animations.
- Suggest workflow improvements for integrating Figma → Illustrator → After Effects pipelines.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Required:
- Proven portfolio of product/UI explainer animations (no character animation required) showing use of mouse clicks and UI interactions.
- Expert-level After Effects skills (compositing, keyframing, easing, expressions/basic scripting).
- Proficient in Figma for working from UI files and Adobe Illustrator for vector asset prep.
- Ability to work full-time Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM CST (40 hrs/week).
- Comfortable working as a backend contributor (not client-facing) and collaborating via Slack and Notion.
- WFH Set-Up:
- Computer with at least 8GB RAM, an Intel i5 core processor/AMD Ryzen 5 Processor and up.
- Internet speed of at least 40MBPS
- Headset with an extended mic that has noise cancellation and a webcam
- Back-up computer and internet connection
- Quiet, dedicated workspace at home
Your Superpowers:
- Technical:
- Strong motion design fundamentals: timing, easing, anticipation, and clarity for UI motion.
- After Effects mastery and efficient workflow habits (precomps, expressions, render/export best practices).
- Comfortable extracting and adapting assets from Figma and Illustrator for animation pipelines.
- Familiarity with asset organization, version control, and export optimizations for video.
- Soft
- Detail-oriented with strong visual communication and problem-solving skills.
- Fast, responsive collaborator who accepts and implements feedback constructively.
- Reliable, proactive, and organized with good time-management skills.
- Team player mindset: supports producers/designers and improves processes.
