The Microbiologist performs lab testing in Microbiology, including Serology and Virology, troubleshoots instruments, and maintains quality assurance records.
Part Time Shift: Weekends, rotating
Hourly Pay Range: $25.00-$30.00 (Based on experience)
POSITION SUMMARY
Performs lab testing and associated activities within the Microbiology section, including Serology, Virology and Parasitology.
Essential Position Duties
- Reviews the daily specimen management report.
- Troubleshoots and maintains the LIS and instruments interface and software.
- Performs Clostidium difficile assays.
- Resolves client problems as needed.
- Performs and records all quality assurances systems required to maintain precision and accuracy, including proficiency testing.
- Performs other tasks and procedures in Microbiology as required which are commensurate with education, training and experience.
- Assists in maintaining adequate inventory of supplies.
- Record lot numbers and ensures compliance with State requirements for documentation of lot numbers with quality control and specimen records.
- Performs all clerical functions associated with the department.
- Reads bacterial and viral cultures. Performs biochemical identification procedures as necessary and record MIC results.
- Follows all safety protocols as outlines in safety manual.
- Identifies and pursues self improvement needs.
- Seeks coaching/mentoring when appropriate.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Compliance Responsibilities
- Participates in required orientation, Compliance and HIPAA training programs.
- Cooperates with monitoring and audit functions and investigations.
- Participates, as requested, in process improvement responsibilities.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Professional Experience/Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or MT (ASCP or equivalent preferred); Associates degree with MLT
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in the area of Microbiology.
- Some computer experience required.
Certification/Licensure
- Must qualify as a clinical laboratory technologist under CLIA regulations.
