  • Oversee the successful execution of projects in alignment with scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards.
  • Serve as Project Engineer (mechanical lead) on assigned projects, providing technical oversight and ensuring deliverables meet requirements.
  • Conduct design reviews, drawing checks, and technical evaluations to maintain quality and consistency.
  • Prioritize team member development through structured training, coaching, mentoring, and career planning.
  • Maintain and apply knowledge of customer, industry, and FORTNA design standards, specifications, and tools.
  • Ensure team members receive required safety training (OSHA 10, Lock-Out/Tag-Out) and reinforce safe work practices.
  • Improve and implement departmental processes; develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Support capacity planning through short-term assignments and long-term  forecasting.
  • Recommend hiring or subcontractor needs and oversee subcontractor onboarding, integration, and performance.
  • Review and approve timesheets, PTO requests, and expense reports; ensure compliance with company policies.
  • Provide input for departmental reporting, budget planning, and KPI tracking.
  • Collaborate with project management, estimating, purchasing, electrical, controls, and installation teams to align resources and resolve issues.
  • Participate in Pre-PO reviews and program status meetings as delegated by the Department Manager.
  • Oversee lessons learned reviews and support continuous improvement initiatives across the department.
  • Contribute to company-wide initiatives, providing input, testing, and implementation support when required.
  • Model and reinforce FORTNA’s cultural values: teamwork, customer focus, and operational excellence.

Qualifications / Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent industry experience (5+ years).
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams in a department or project setting.
  • Strong technical foundation in mechanical design and system integration.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk tools (AutoCAD, Inventor, Vault, Navisworks, Recap, BIM) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and develop engineers at different stages of their careers.
  • Skilled in capacity planning, resource management, and project forecasting.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking abilities; able to balance details with big-picture priorities.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions and levels of the organization.
  • Knowledge of customer and industry design standards and specifications.
  • Willingness to travel up to ~30% as required to support projects.
