Design and develop precision electro-mechanical systems for semiconductor test equipment, focusing on PCB integration and thorough testing from concept to production.
Cohu is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer to design and develop precision electro-mechanical systems for semiconductor automated test equipment platforms, with a strong focus on mechanical integration of PCBs. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in precision mechanical assemblies, PCB support structures, and system-level design, supporting products from concept through production.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design for PCB assemblies, including component mounting, board support structures, thermal management, and integration within test equipment.
- Design precision electro-mechanical systems such as motion mechanisms, structural components, and enclosures.
- Develop 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, tolerance analyses, and BOMs for mechanical and PCB components.
- Support system integration, verification, and qualification testing during new product development.
- Perform structural and thermal analysis using FEA and CFD tools, including thermal validation for PCB assemblies.
- Investigate failures and implement corrective design actions.
- Support mechanical integration of semiconductor test cells, including tester interfaces, device handlers, and manipulators.
- Collaborate with hardware and applications teams to ensure system-level and PCB-level performance.
- Work with Manufacturing and Supply Chain on vendor selection, part qualification, and cost optimization.
- Document designs, changes, and engineering updates using standard processes.
Required Qualifications
- BS in Mechanical Engineering (MS preferred).
- Minimum 5 years of experience designing electro-mechanical systems or capital equipment.
- Strong hands-on experience in precision mechanical assemblies and PCB support structures.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo) and GD&T.
- Experience with FEA and/or CFD analysis tools.
- Knowledge of mechanical integration in complex systems, including PCB design, EMN creation, thermal management, DFM/DFA, and interconnect systems.
- Familiarity with Agile development, Oracle PLM systems, and cross-functional collaboration for system and PCB integration.
- Experience supporting products through development and production cycles.
- Electromechanical applications experience in semiconductor or related industries.
Preferred Experience
- Semiconductor equipment or automated handling/test systems.
