Who we are

With its A.I.-powered robotic technology platform, Symbotic is changing the way consumer goods move through the supply chain. Intelligent software orchestrates advanced robots in a high-density, end-to-end system – reinventing warehouse automation for increased efficiency, speed and flexibility.

What we need

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our Fixtures & Prototypes team. Your job will be to develop conceptual ideas regarding mechanical fixture requests and needs. You will work with multiple groups to develop, document, prototype, and implement associated fixtures.

What we do

The Fixtures & Prototypes team owns the design, fabrication, integration and testing of automated fixtures and tools to support R&D and test engineering initiatives. This involves close collaboration with System and Product Test Engineers to define fixture requirements and brainstorm design concepts.

What you’ll do

  • Design, prototype, and refine complex mechanical fixtures and systems that support the assembly, testing, and validation of robotic components, assemblies and/or products.

  • Lead all relative aspects of associated fixtures including but not limited to the development of BOMs, associated SolidWorks files, design reviews, prototyping and the hands-on build of said fixtures.

  • Streamline the prototyping and fixture builds, utilizing your expertise in 3D CAD design, CNC machining, and hands on experience to bring fixtures to fruition.

  • Coordinate efforts with electrical, software, and other mechanical engineering teams to ensure that fixture designs are optimized and are built to support associated requirements.

  • Design fixtures that enhance testing efficiency and system performance, troubleshooting and iterating on designs as necessary to meet evolving product requirements.

  • Create detailed dimensional drawings and specifications for fixtures and prototypes, adhering to GD&T standards (ASME Y14.5). Ensure all designs are documented accurately, including BOMs and necessary Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).

  • Perform and document mechanical analysis of your designs.

  • Assist in assembling prototypes, testing, troubleshooting, and implementing fixture design changes.

What you’ll need

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline

  • Minimum 2 years of work experience in a hands-on Mechanical engineering or design role.

  • Machine Shop experience including but not limited to Milling machines, Lathe work, and use of power and hand tools.  Woodworking and welding experience would be a plus.

  • Electronics knowledge would be desired, including soldering, wiring, micro-controllers, motors, sensors, actuators, electronic components, etc.

  • Full proficiency with SolidWorks is desired.

  • Experience designing fixtures using various materials and methods, including machining, casting, sheet metal, plastics, and 3D printing.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  • Desire to take initiative as a self-starter and thrive in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment is essential.

Our Environment

  • Up to 10% of travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.

  • The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis.
