What We're Researching

We're running a paid study on the quality and accuracy of competitive math questions designed for young students. Ensuring these problems are technically sound and completely free of ambiguity is critical for fair mathematical evaluations. Your work will directly feed into improving the standard of elementary math olympiad testing materials.

How It Works

You will review a series of elementary math olympiad questions in an asynchronous, text-based environment. For each problem, you will verify the technical correctness of the question and its corresponding solution. You will be asked to flag any confusing wording, eliminate ambiguity, and carefully audit the grading rubrics for consistency. Finally, you will submit written feedback detailing your reasoning for any suggested corrections.

Who This Is For

We are looking for math educators, curriculum developers, and individuals with strong quantitative backgrounds who understand competitive mathematics. We welcome elementary math teachers, olympiad coaches, math tutors, and professionals in STEM fields. A keen eye for detail and a solid grasp of foundational math principles are required to succeed in this task.

What You'll Do
  • Verify the technical correctness of elementary math olympiad problems

  • Audit grading rubrics to ensure they are accurate and fair

  • Identify and eliminate ambiguity in question phrasing

  • Provide clear, written feedback on proposed solutions

Who Should Apply
  • Strong background in mathematics, education, or a related quantitative field

  • Familiarity with elementary-level competitive math concepts

  • High attention to detail when reviewing technical content

  • Comfortable providing written analysis of mathematical problems

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
