THE ROLE

We’re looking for a seasoned PR professional, with exceptional media relations skills and experience working with high growth tech companies, to join our Communications team. 

Despite the challenges of the pandemic, Hopper managed to have +109% year-over-year revenue growth in 2020. In fact, Hopper is recovering faster than the sector at large and that is driven in large part by the performance of our fintech products, such as Price Freeze, Flexible Dates Plan, and Disruption Protection, which offer travelers an unparalleled level of flexibility and control. Now we need to lay the groundwork for a growth-centric year in 2021.

In this role, you’ll be an integral part of our communications team as you’ll work to develop our overall strategy and manage communications with key news outlets and journalists. You’ll be tasked with creating clear and compelling messaging that communicates our value propositions to the media and our customers. You will identify media opportunities and anticipate what stories will resonate with the media and our customers in the future.

As a data-driven company, you must be a strong analytical thinker to excel in this role. You will collaborate with our economists and data scientists to leverage our vast historical archive of trillions of flight and hotel prices to identify compelling stats and story angles. You’ll be drafting data-driven content including pitches, research reports, and bylines. You must be able to distill complex data and topics down to succinct and compelling messaging.

All our PR efforts are managed entirely in-house so you must have a passion for media relations. We consider our team a “Performance PR” team so you’ll be tracking and measuring all PR activities to find ways to optimize and scale our efforts. Our communications prides itself on delivering meaningful and quantifiable business results.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:

  • Develop communications strategy to drive media coverage in consumer, business, and tech outlets
  • Work with our economist and data science team to leverage internal data to produce data-driven content, including pitches, research reports, and bylines 
  • Craft targeted pitches to secure top-tier coverage
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with top consumer, trade, and business press
  • Develop localized content to pitch to key local markets 
  • Manage and prioritize press inquiries and interview requests 
  • Create media materials such as press releases, talking points, messaging documents, etc.
  • Secure, track, and measure your results to ensure you’re driving real business impact

AN IDEAL CANDIDATE HAS:

  • 4+ years of experience in public relations working with consumer tech, e-commerce, mobile or other high-growth stage consumer-facing companies
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong consumer, tech, and business media contacts
  • Proven success executing national and local communications programs 
  • A great mix of creative and analytical thinking
  • The ability to flourish with minimal guidance, be proactive and to handle uncertainty, ambiguity and the challenge of quickly evolving goals
  • Interest in the travel industry and startups is a plus; you should be comfortable working in a small team and a fast-paced environment
