Associate Director, Communications & PR

The Associate Director, Communications and PR in Boston, MA will act as an architect, building this strategy from scratch and serving as a true partner and consultant to the business, focusing on driving veterinary engagement and relations, while leveraging opportunities to build relationships with key media, stakeholders, and external partners. What You'll Do:
- Key contributor to multi-tiered Healthcare Communications & PR strategy development
- Work collaboratively with the Chewy Healthcare team to lead and manage healthcare-related PR/media opportunities, awards and recognition, industry events (conferences, trade show, etc.), partnerships and event initiatives
- Build communications strategy and positioning around Chewy Health Ecosystem
- Provide communications strategy for veterinarian relations, engagement and vet-focused initiatives
- Identify, negotiate, and manage strategic partnerships and relationships that support the Healthcare team’s current and emerging PR priorities and position Chewy as an innovative leader in the pet healthcare space
- Work collaboratively with corporate teams to lead and manage consumer-related PR/media opportunities, partnerships, brand marketing initiatives and events; Identify opportunities to elevate Chewy in key consumer communities
- Lead media outreach initiatives inclusive of pitching, handling media queries, and managing media relationships
- Identify appropriate spokespeople and prepare them for interviews, including media trainings, message development and internal briefings
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive strategic communication planning and execution; Develop and distribute communication materials/messaging to internal teams
- Work closely with Chewy Health leadership, providing strategic PR input to support the team toward meeting organizational goals
- Provide counsel to senior executives on communications strategy, messaging and media relations
- Monitor PR campaign performance; Deliver timely reporting to team leads and senior leadership
- Supervise Healthcare PR team members
- Manage crisis communications (within Chewy Healthcare), as needed
- Collaborate with outside communications agency
What You'll Need:
- Education Requirement: Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university
- Degree Requirement: Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or related field of study
- Prior years of experience: At least 12+ years of communications, media relations and/or PR experience, within the healthcare space
- Experience with veterinary clinics or medical practices
- Strong understanding of the overall pet care industry and/or recent trends in technology and pet healthcare
- In-depth experience and understanding of the veterinary profession in the US
- A deep understanding of communications best practices and ability to craft impactful, multi-tiered communication strategies; Experience developing and implementing successful PR campaigns; Expertise in leading campaigns and communicating to B2B and/or business analyst audiences
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills; Experience interacting with senior leadership
- Adept at working in a cross-functional organization with demonstrated ability to collaborate with teams across the organization (social media, Marketing, Content, Merchandising, etc.)
- Exhibit a strong sense of ownership and ability to work independently
- Be attentive to detail and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities
- Strong analytical skills: ability to gather, analyze, summarize, and present data
- Ability to work within tight deadlines, adjust to changes in priorities, and balance short term needs with long term strategic initiatives
- Strong communication (verbal and written) skills
- Position may require travel
