Harvard Business School Executive Education brings together senior executives from the world’s most influential organizations, preparing them to reach the next level for their organizations and for themselves. Working closely with HBS’s world-class faculty, we design and deliver programs for individuals and for organizations, welcoming over 12,000 participants annually from over 130 countries. Programs range from a few days to multiple weeks. Most programs are delivered on the HBS campus, where participants live, learn, and dine together in dedicated Executive Education residences and facilities. Our programming includes in-person, virtual, and blended (combining both in-person and virtual learning) options. The Executive Education department consists of open enrollment, global, and custom program portfolio management; guest services; marketing; corporate sales; program operations; technology services; human resources; enrollment and admissions; and finance.

Job Description

Reporting to the Associate Director, Marketing Technology, the Marketing Technology Manager is a power user of Salesforce Marketing Cloud—utilizing the platform to nurture leads, deliver program applications, and engage Executive Education alumni, past participants, and key clients. This role will focus on maintaining and enhancing marketing automation campaigns through data-driven strategies. The successful candidate will have technical experience in Salesforce Marketing Cloud or other email marketing platform, experience in lead nurturing, and an understanding of email engagement strategies. A strong command for data management, segmentation, and campaign optimization is essential for success in this role.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Enhance the customer journey through personalized email campaigns, landing pages, and web forms that are cohesive in design and tone
  • Support the refinement and evolution of lead acquisition strategies in partnership with key Marketing & Sales team members, IT, external agencies, and vendors
  • Create systems and workflows to optimize Marketing Cloud processes including design, execution, and QA; proactively manage calendar and collect content, data, and scheduling details from clients and stakeholders
  • Establish KPIs, set up tagging/tracking, monitor performance, implement tests, and make data-driven optimization recommendations
  • End-to-end email campaign and automated journey development in partnership with a peer Marketing Technology Manager: editorial planning, HTML creation, testing, data segmentation, deployment, and performance analysis
  • Stay current and well-versed in data privacy laws, such as CAN-SPAM, CASL, and GDPR, and partner with IT and General Counsel to ensure compliance when required
  • Make recommendations on web-tools and technologies adopted by the University to determine if and how they can best be leveraged with Executive Education data structure, the business, and best practices
  • Build trust and collaboration by being present on-site and engaging directly with colleagues and various constituents.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.

  • 5+ years of directly related and specific experience in marketing technology, digital marketing platforms, and marketing automation systems is required.

  • Education beyond high school may count toward experience.

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) experience is a must.

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

Strong HTML experience and understanding of CSS

  • SQL or experience with other data querying tools or programming language
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite or similar digital editing software
  • Experience with marketing automation software
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, with an emphasis in Excel
  • Excellent communication, project management, and creative program solving skills
  • Experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Salesforce CRM (or similar platform), and Adobe Analytics / Google Analytics
  • Knowledge of AMPscript and other scripting languages (e.g. jQuery, javaScript)
  • Must be an extremely organized team player and have demonstrated initiative to improve marketing performance, use innovative marketing strategies, and collaborate across departments to improve business results.

Additional Information

  • Standard Hours: This is a 40 hours/week, overtime eligible position.
  • Expected Offer Range: $83,000 – $85,000

  • Other Information:
    • This is a hybrid position which we consider to be a combination of onsite and remote work at our Boston, MA based campus. This department expects staff to be onsite a minimum of 2 days per week and departments to provide onsite coverage Monday – Friday. Specific hours and days onsite will be determined by business needs and are subject to change with appropriate advanced notice.
    • We may conduct candidate interviews virtually (phone and/or via Zoom) and/or in-person for this role.

Work Format Details

This position has been determined by school or unit leaders that some of the duties and responsibilities can be effectively performed at a non-Harvard location. The work schedule and location will be set by the department at its discretion and based upon operational needs. When not working at a Harvard or Harvard-designated location, employees in hybrid positions must work in a Harvard registered state in compliance with the University’s Policy on Employment Outside of Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
