Who are we?

The Motley Fool is a purpose-driven financial services company on a mission to make the world smarter, happier, and richer. For 30 years we’ve been helping people make better investment decisions through transparency, education, and Foolish fun. We’re a fast-moving, collaborative team that values high-quality work, curiosity, and initiative. We care deeply about what we do, and we’re driven by the impact our work has on real people’s financial futures.

What does this team do?
Our Member Marketing team is focused on profitably growing our business and expanding the reach of our brand. We execute multiple simultaneous campaigns—from upsell and cross-sell windows to evergreen and automated programs—each with their own creative assets, technical elements, and strategic goals. We’re excited to add a dynamic and versatile leader to help drive both strategy and execution across this complex ecosystem. The ideal candidate is equal parts growth marketer, strategist, and operator—someone who’s just as comfortable ideating a new campaign as they are overseeing its flawless deployment.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Campaign Strategy & Ideation: Lead the creation of direct-response marketing campaigns that drive engagement and revenue. You’ll turn member insights, business priorities, and creative ideas into high-performing initiatives across upsell, cross-sell, and retention efforts.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Manage and mentor a small team of marketers, providing guidance, feedback, and support to help them grow and deliver high-quality work.
  • Operational Excellence: Oversee end-to-end campaign execution, ensuring all creative, technical, and performance elements come together seamlessly. Use tools, systems, and collaboration to deliver consistent, high-quality work at scale.
  • Data-Driven Experimentation: Design and run A/B and multivariate tests to validate ideas and optimize campaign performance. Continuously iterate on what works, using analytics and feedback loops to drive improvement.
  • AI & Martech Integration: Champion the use of AI tools like ChatGPT and our internal platforms to boost personalization, productivity, and scale. Look for opportunities to automate, streamline, and future-proof our marketing operations.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with designers, developers, data analysts, legal, and leadership to align on goals, prioritize initiatives, and execute cross-team projects effectively.
  • Trendspotting & Innovation: Stay on the cutting edge of digital marketing and direct-response strategies. Be the one to bring fresh, bold ideas to the table and pilot new approaches with an R&D mindset.
  • Tool Proficiency & Ownership: Become a power user of proprietary internal tools alongside Braze, Jira, Google Analytics, and Tableau. Leverage these tools for greater insight, efficiency, and impact.
  • Member-Centric Thinking: Keep the member experience at the heart of your work. Ensure we’re delivering the right offers and content, in the right format, at the right time.

What you bring to the role:

  • A growth mindset with a strong track record in direct-response marketing, ideally with both strategic and operational experience. You know how to move the needle.
  • A keen eye for detail and a high bar for quality—you're the first to catch typos, bugs, or inconsistent messaging.
  • Proven experience running performance-driven campaigns and interpreting results to inform decisions.
  • Experience managing or mentoring marketers or cross-functional teams, with a proven ability to motivate and develop talent.
  • A collaborative leadership style that brings out the best in others and keeps projects moving forward.
  • Familiarity with HTML/CSS and content management systems is a plus.
  • Experience with (or eagerness to explore) AI tools and automation to boost scale and creativity.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to juggle multiple projects without losing sight of the big picture.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills—you bring people together to get things done.
  • A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with the initiative to improve processes and deliver results.

What do you need to apply:

  • 5+ years’ experience in a performance marketing role, preferably in the investing or personal finance space.
  • Strong understanding of online marketing channels including social media, display, SEM, and native advertising.
  • Deep knowledge of direct response marketing principles and best practices.
  • Proven ability to run successful online marketing campaigns, owning performance and optimizing to hit objectives and budgets.
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills with a passion for data and performance metrics.
  • Ability to synthesize research, competitive analysis, and marketing insights into scalable customer acquisition strategies.
  • Clear and effective communicator who can confidently share results, test plans, and ROI with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Entrepreneurial, self-starter mindset with a strong customer focus and a bias toward action.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
