Position Summary

The Marketing & Communications Director is a strategic, creative, and mission‑driven leader responsible for shaping how GT Independence communicates with the world. This role oversees brand strategy, marketing, public relations, storytelling, and internal communications elevating GT’s national reputation and amplifying the impact of self‑direction.

You will guide the vision for GT’s external presence, strengthen trust with individuals, families, state partners, and communities, and lead campaigns that highlight the power of independence and choice. You’ll also ensure our employees stay informed, inspired, and connected through clear and consistent internal communications.

This is a hands‑on leadership role ideal for someone who blends strategic thinking with exceptional execution.


Key Responsibilities:

Brand Leadership & Messaging

  • Own GT’s brand identity, messaging, visual standards, and tone across all platforms.
  • Ensure all content reflects our mission, values, and person‑centered approach.
  • Build a consistent and compelling narrative about self‑direction and our role within long‑term care.

Marketing Strategy & Execution

  • Develop and implement annual marketing strategies aligned to organizational priorities and growth.
  • Lead multi‑channel campaigns across digital, social, email, SEO, print, conferences, and events.
  • Oversee website strategy, structure, content, analytics, and continuous optimization.
  • Highlight GT’s technology, caregiver tools, customer support, and state‑specific programs through engaging campaigns.

Communications & Public Relations

  • Lead PR strategy, media outreach, and GT’s public presence.
  • Draft and review press releases, executive messaging, speeches, and thought‑leadership pieces.
  • Manage crisis communication preparedness and real‑time response.
  • Position GT as a national leader in self‑direction and community‑based services.

Internal Communications

  • Partner with HR and leadership to deliver consistent and meaningful internal communication.
  • Support employee engagement, culture, change management, and clarity around organizational updates.

Content & Creative Development

  • Lead storytelling initiatives that center the voices of people we serve, caregivers, and community partners.
  • Oversee creative development (videos, blogs, social, email, case studies, brand assets).
  • Ensure all content is accessible, inclusive, and mission‑aligned.

Stakeholder & Cross‑Functional Partnership

  • Collaborate with operations, customer service, government relations, product, and implementation teams.
  • Support messaging for state transitions, program launches, RFP communications, and public initiatives.

Team & Budget Leadership

  • Manage and develop a high‑performing marketing and communications team.
  • Oversee external agencies, freelancers, creative partners, and marketing technology vendors.
  • Manage budgets, timelines, and performance metrics.

Data, Insights & Optimization

  • Use data to measure brand awareness, engagement, campaign ROI, and customer insights.
  • Deliver reporting and actionable recommendations to executives.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Business, or related field.
  • 7+ years in marketing, communications, or brand leadership roles.
  • Proven experience managing multi‑channel marketing programs.
  • Exceptional writing, messaging, and storytelling skills.
  • Strong digital marketing experience (SEO, social media, analytics, web management).
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross‑functionally in a mission‑driven environment.

Preferred:

  • Should have experience in healthcare, disability services, Medicaid, LTSS, nonprofit, or regulated environments.
  • Experience supporting multi‑state organizations or government‑funded programs.
  • Experience overseeing communications during organizational transitions or large‑scale rollouts.
  • Leadership experience within values‑driven or high‑growth organizations.
