Marketing and Communications Coordinator

Status: Full-time, exempt

Reports to: Director of Marketing and Communications

Supervises: Graduate Fellows

Longy seeks a Marketing and Communications Coordinator to orchestrate the storytelling hub of a trailblazing conservatory that centers music as social change.

Longy prepares graduate students to make a difference in the world through their artistry. Our marketing goals and projects reflect Longy’s commitment to this mission. For example, one school-wide goal ensures at least 50% of all music studied and performed here is written by composers of color, women, and artists from other historically underrecognized communities in musical traditions. Dovetailing with such initiatives, marketing amplifies stories from our school that disrupt exclusive music traditions and that champion our entire community.

Working with the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Coordinator will be at the table for launching all projects, guiding the production process to create assets such as videos, press releases, social media, ads, emails, print publications, and web pages. With forethought and critical thinking, they document project details to create realistic work plans and adapt to ensure the final product is excellent. They provide day-to-day execution to see projects through fulfillment, troubleshooting as needed. They are the point person for contractors, vendors, and advertising venues.

A strong candidate will be an excellent communicator with a keen editorial eye and strong marketing instincts, always curious to discover new stories and new opportunities. They should be a self-starter who needs little oversight and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative work environment. They must be a critical thinker and enjoy creative problem-solving, navigating competing priorities with quick thinking and good humor. They must be organized, detail-oriented, resourceful, and strategic in prioritization. Their efforts support Longy’s marketing goals by positively influencing school enrollment, concert attendance, alumni engagement, and fundraising—by connecting the right message to the right audience at the right time.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide project management for departmental initiatives and objectives in a timely, cost-effective manner.
  • Meet all deadlines, adapting to changing priorities and new projects.
  • Forecast scope, schedule, and budget of new and recurring projects—engage stakeholders and freelancers, set meetings, and synthesize/circulate information.
  • Collaborate with departments across Longy to execute new and ongoing projects.
  • Schedule and manage freelancers and vendors—from video producers and art directors to copywriters and translators—and oversee payment fulfillment. Ensure vendors are representative of our diverse community.
  • Produce marketing content in various forms, including copy, graphics, and videos, appropriate to the platform on which the content will appear.
  • Manage the schedule and distribution of content across various platforms, including Longy’s social media (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube), email marketing (Mailchimp), and more.
  • Monitor user engagement with content, respond to comments, and engage with the audience to foster a sense of community.
  • Manage boosted posts and other social media advertising.
  • Optimize content for search engines, ensuring it ranks well and reaches the target audience.
  • Manage digital and print workflows for ads, social media posts, web updates, admissions viewbook, and concert season materials—working directly on these projects and with contractors and vendors.
  • Publish finished assets to Longy’s website, social media, email channels, advertising venues, media contacts, supported by freelancers and Graduate Fellows. Maintain project archives for future reference and reuse.
  • Track success of marketing campaigns and channels to make data-driven recommendations and adjustments. Pilot and iterate new marketing tactics such as podcast advertising and new social media platforms.
  • Oversee the work of student Graduate Fellows who assist with Marketing projects throughout the school year.
  • Assist in updating, monitoring, and maintaining the brand alignment and accuracy quality of Longy’s communications on an ongoing basis.
  • Attend classes and events as needed to capture content representing all areas of the School
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

QUALITIES AND CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Understanding of and affinity for music and the performing arts.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • A strategic thinker who is intellectually curious, thinks on their feet, and can redirect according to changing priorities
  • An organized, proactive project manager who can easily shift between macro and micro aspects of any project
  • Ability to identify opportunities, take initiative and prioritize work without significant supervision
  • Eager collaborator who enjoys building strong team relationships.
  • A self-reflective individual who monitors the effectiveness of their work
  • Strong sense of discretion and cultural sensitivity.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in project management and administration, marketing and communications, higher education or the arts preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, copyediting expertise a plus
  • Prior experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office 365, WordPress, Constant Contact, and social media platforms a plus.
  • Familiarity with Canva and InDesign desired
  • Detail-oriented and organized, able to perform multiple assignments concurrently in a timely manner
