Develops and improves manufacturing processes, workflows, standard operating procedures, work instructions, routings, bills of materials, and production fixtures. Maintains SAP manufacturing data, supports make-or-buy and supplier decisions, analyzes process improvement opportunities, and coordinates engineering changes and new product transfers. Advises design, purchasing, quality, and production teams on manufacturing methods, costs, materials, and technical documentation. Travel to other plants for introductions and transfers may last up to eight consecutive weeks.
MANUFACTURING ENGINEER Reports to: Manufacturing Engineering Manager
Summary:
The job holder must perform their duties in such a way that:
- Manufacturing processes and workflows allow operators and technicians to produce quality product, on time, and at the expected cost.
- Bills of materials and routings for assemblies and individual parts are created on time.
- Work instructions follow expected guidelines and provide necessary information, and non-compliant instructions are corrected in a reasonable timeframe.
- Tools relevant for production are designed, manufactured and / or procured on schedule.
- All standard operating procedures are consistently reproducible.
- All tasks are completed in a timely and economical manner.
- Their actions always correspond to the corporate philosophy and serve to achieve the company's goals.
The job holder must inform and advise their manager in such a way that they are able to:
- Communicate relevant information to those parties who need to know it.
- Define appropriate measures and objectives and to identify progress towards the achievement of said objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Creating and maintaining standard operating procedures, detailed work instructions, and process flow routers.
- Correcting and editing material master data in SAP.
- Creating and editing production BOMs.
- Assisting with make or buy decisions on drafted materials.
- Clarifying beforehand which supplier is suitable or make suggestions for possible selection (also suggest technology-related innovations).
- Creating specifications for any required clamping and / or assembly devices, with ability to create prints for them if needed.
- Creating change requests and quality notes in SAP
- Completing change requests with regards to process controls (routings, SOPs, WI, fixtures, etc.)
- Analyzing data to uncover process improvement opportunities and evaluate test / trial results.
- Initiating and participating in process improvement projects, bringing them to a successful conclusion under target and deadlines.
- Processing of service orders within production
- Advising the design department with regards to their choices of material and limitations of manufacturing technology, taking into account both the technical and business contexts.
- Advising the purchasing department with regards to expected manufacturing costs and possible manufacturing processes.
- Advising the supplier quality team about manufacturing processes, processes and helping with problems with and questions about technical documentation.
- Traveling to other plants to facilitate new product introductions and transfer programs into SNA. Travel will not be a regular part of day-to-day responsibilities, but when it is required, it could be for as many as 8 consecutive weeks.
- Informing their manager in case of failure to meet deadlines.
- Informing departments and people in the information chain of project progress, such as: production management, order management, IT department, QA and design.
- Taking part in necessary kick-off meetings, departmental meetings, project meetings, etc.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States (Citizen, Green Card)
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering
- 0-5 years of experience in engineering
- Technical writing expertise, especially with regards to work instructions
- Willingness to travel for up to 8 weeks consecutively is required
- Strong knowledge of CAD
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Strong communication skills
- Prior SAP experience preferred, but not required
