JOB HIGHLIGHT

You'll steward charity: water's financial health and ability to deliver on donor promises by making sure restricted gifts are used accordingly, that commitments to donors are grounded in real deliverable capacity, and that the organization has the liquidity and reserves to meet its targets.

JOB SUMMARY

As Manager of Strategic Finance, you'll work as part of the Strategic Finance Team across two connected areas that together protect our ability to deliver on our commitments: (1) cash flow and reserves oversight to ensure the organization has the liquidity and financial stability to meet its obligations and (2) restricted funds planning and analysis to ensure alignment between capacity and demand.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Strategic Finance, you'll blend rigorous modeling with hands-on cross-functional project management across Revenue, Programs, and Finance. You'll bring quantitative rigor, investigative instincts, and sound judgment to work that sits at the center of our financial stewardship, making sure the conditions are in place for funds to get allocated cleanly and that the money is there to deliver.

YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR…

  • Translating revenue projections into deployable cash and partnering with Water Programs to set the grantable water expense envelope

  • Ensuring balance between donor restrictions and inventory capacity at the portfolio level, surfacing risks and helping to drive solutions when needed

  • Building and maintaining a multi-year deploy model to develop large and multi-year pitch options with Revenue stakeholders and identify long-term opportunities and risks

  • Managing the twice-yearly cross-functional effort with Revenue Operations and Accounting to ensure reliable and accurate completion of the allocation of funds to water projects

  • Monitoring organizational cash flow, including escalating cash risks and executing strategic timing of liquidation of funds

  • Owning the tracking, projecting, and reporting for the organization’s operational reserves, ensuring leadership is aware of emerging risks and opportunities

  • Building and maintaining a multi-year investment and liquidity model that informs the organization’s investments strategy by forecasting potential returns, stress-testing risk/reward tradeoffs across allocation scenarios, and understanding the liquidity implications of each

  • Supporting investment tracking and reporting in partnership with the Senior Director of Strategic Finance

YOU MUST HAVE…

  • A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business, finance, or related field

  • 5+ years of experience in a variety of strategic, analytical, and finance roles

  • A background in finance with an established knowledge of financial concepts, with preferred experience in cash management and nonprofit restricted funds

  • Elite Google and Microsoft Suite skills, specifically Google Sheets and Excel

  • Experience with NetSuite, Salesforce or similar systems is preferred

  • Systems and tooling adaptability with a demonstrated ability to leverage AI to create workflow efficiencies

  • Proven history of working well across a variety of teams to solve complex and ambiguous problems

  • An ability to own and drive multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously

  • An aptitude for working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment

  • Excellent quantitative skills, an ability to shift between granular and high-level analysis, a love for informing data-driven strategy and the skills to distill data into actionable insights

  • A rigorously detail-oriented approach, always triple-checking work, and experience producing exceptional deliverables

YOU’LL BE SUCCESSFUL IF…

You’re passionate about accuracy

You double-check your work because you know that accurate data is crucial to operate successfully. You care about the numbers being right and take the time to make sure everything reconciles or is set up to be error-proof.

You’re a problem solver

You’re an inquisitive and critical thinker who will investigate the numbers to comprehend the story behind them. You know how to develop an articulation of an ambiguous problem and roll out solutions, recognizing there are many solutions to the same problem. You find new and effective ways to streamline and create processes to increase efficiency.

You’re a team player

You thrive in a creative, inventive, fast-paced environment, with people who are passionate about their work. You’re excited to work cross-functionally with other departments and enjoy achieving a shared goal. People enjoy working with you because they know you’re reliable.

You’re a great communicator

You can turn data and numbers into effective and compelling messages. You are great at sharing insights; but what you love to do is apply real context to findings so that stakeholders understand what it means for them and also how it impacts our business
