About the Role

Dandy is tackling some of the most complex challenges in 3D vision, material science, and AI to redefine how dental professionals deliver care.

We are seeking an engineering manager for an interdisciplinary team of production software development that integrates computer vision & research.  We are building this team around the full end to end problem of managing the appearance of dental restorations from data capture to prosthetic fabrication.

This leader will need to be able to lead the production software development and the research body which powers the product. 

This leader will drive the execution of projects that bridge computer vision, 3D reconstruction, robotics and material science, enabling automated and accurate color representation in dental prosthetics. 

What You'll Do
  • Define and drive strategy, prioritization, and execution to align research and engineering milestones with company goals and business impact.

  • Oversee initiatives related to:

    • Automated application of color to teeth based on specifications.

    • Shade capture—developing methods to extract accurate tooth color regardless of lighting or environment.

  • Guide research by balancing innovation with practical execution, defining best practices for development, evaluation, and deployment.

  • Lead and mentor a blended team of research scientists and engineers to translate research into a scalable product.

  • Work cross-functionally with engineering, design, and product teams to integrate research into production workflows.

Who You Are
  • You have delivered new research to an in production product in a past role.

  • A Life Long Learner - You are willing to go deep and reach into the disciplines you are not familiar with.

  • Experienced Research Leader – You have successfully led research teams and guided PhD-level talent toward product outcomes.

  • Computer Vision & 3D Familiarity – You have experience with products that used 2D/3D vision, visualization, material science, or texture modeling.

  • Strong Communicator & Organizer – You excel at structuring research roadmaps and keeping teams focused on execution.

  • Domain expertise – You’ve worked in industries where appearance matters as much as physical structure, such as:

    • Paints, pigments, coatings

    • Shape/material recognition

    • Ceramics, fluids, or cosmetic material science

    • Augmented reality, 3D modeling, photorealistic rendering

    • Robotics/Perception
