Amex GBT is a place where colleagues find inspiration in travel as a force for good and – through their work – can make an impact on our industry. We’re here to help our colleagues achieve success and offer an inclusive and collaborative culture where your voice is valued.

We're seeking a leader who builds high-performing teams through hands-on coaching, real-time modeling of excellence, and a culture where every prospect conversation is a strategic opportunity to learn and advance. As the face of Amex GBT's mid-market sales development organization, you will set the tone, drive the culture, and be the standard your team measures themselves against.

What You'll Do

  • Coaching and Development: You’re listening to calls, with reps during prospecting blocks, running live coaching sessions, and showing your team what a great outbound conversation sounds like, every day.
  • Lead from the Front: You pick up the phone. When the team needs a spark, when a rep is stuck, or when demonstrating a new technique—you dial alongside them.
  • Phone-First Culture Builder: Champion a culture where outbound calling is the primary weapon, helping your team understand that every conversation is an opportunity to gather intelligence, build rapport, and create pipeline through genuine engagement rather than overcoming objections.
  • Outbound Strategy & Playbook Development: Shape Amex GBT's evolving outbound playbook by bringing creative engagement approaches, identifying gaps from front-line insights, and collaborating to continuously improve messaging, sequencing, and account strategy.
  • Culture & Team DNA Ownership: You are maniacally focused on building something special—knowing every team member deeply, understanding the why behind the numbers, and identifying which initiatives drive results, where friction exists, and what your team needs next.
  • Data-Informed Decision Making: You are analytically sharp, capable of building reports and reading dashboards, and use data to inspect what you expect and make smarter coaching decisions.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: You are the face of this team across the organization, collaborating effectively with AE Leaders, translating your team's efforts into real business outcomes, and earning trust through credible results.
  • Talent Acquisition & Retention: Attract, develop, and retain top mid-market sales development talent by identifying high-potential reps, accelerating their growth, and creating a team environment where A-players thrive and want to stay.

What We're Looking For

  • A proven coaching-first leadership approach—you believe your primary job is to develop every person on your team, and your track record reflects it
  • Deep belief in a phone-first outbound model. You understand that real pipeline is built through conversations, not just sequences and automation
  • Strong creative instincts for outbound strategy—you bring ideas on messaging, positioning, and account engagement that go beyond the standard playbook
  • Naturally curious about the business, the market, and your team’s prospects. You ask why before you prescribe how
  • Comfortable and confident picking up the phone yourself. You lead by example and never ask your team to do something you wouldn’t do
  • Data-literate and capable of building your own reports when needed, but you use data to drive coaching and decisions—not to avoid being present
  • High emotional intelligence—you read your team well, know when to push and when to support, and adapt your style to each person
  • Proven ability to recruit and retain high-performing talent. People want to work for you, and they stay because you invest in them
  • Strong cross-functional collaborator who represents the sales development organization with credibility and professionalism

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
