APM is one of Datadog’s foundational product pillars. It’s where customers go to understand how their business is running. One of Datadog’s strengths is the breadth of our product suite and APM is where our app based products are connected to form an observability experience that’s greater than the sum of its parts. This requires frictionless setup and product enablement for all products in the suite as well as a centralized control for easy management. As OpenTelemetry (OTel) continues to grow this also means ensuring that the same frictionless onboarding and enablement experience is true for our OTel native customers as well. This is the problem the Ecosystems Enablement group was created to address.
As the lead for the APM Ecosystems Enablement group you’ll partner with Product and Engineering teams across Datadog to deliver industry leading experiences and technology for enabling OTel native application observability. You’ll shape both our APM and OpenTelemetry product strategy to ensure Datadog remains the industry leader in plug-and-play observability. You’ll work cross-functionally with our Engineering, Product, Design, Sales, and Customer Support partners to ensure we’re delivering real customer value and not just shipping features. And you’ll set direction for the future of instrumentation across the observability industry.
We’re looking for a seasoned engineering leader who cares deeply about product experience, business value, technical excellence, and efficient execution. You must be customer and KPI driven and not be afraid of working across the organization to accomplish hard things. You should be excited by the prospect of working directly with customers to develop and refine your vision for the first touch APM experience. And you should be excited at the prospect of capitalizing on nascent product opportunities. This is a high impact role that will help set the direction for Datadog’s instrumentation and OpenTelemetry strategies for years to come.
At Datadog, we place value in our office culture - the relationships and collaboration it builds and the creativity it brings to the table. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our Datadogs can create a work-life harmony that best fits them.
What you’ll do:
- Manage managers and lead multiple product engineering teams
- Own the APM zero-to-one onboarding experience, and the technology enabling it
- Own the OpenTelemetry strategy and execution for the APM suite
- Work with Product and Engineering partners across Datadog to define and deliver an industry leading observability enablement roadmap
- Continuously raise the bar on technical excellence
- Grow a bench of strong leaders to help you deliver your vision
Who you are:
- An seasoned Engineering leader with a track record of shipping and growing your people
- Are customer focused and think in terms of experiences, not features
- Have a passion for OpenTelemetry and OSS software development
- Deep experience working on or with observability tooling
- Highly collaborative
- An ability pivot from high level product narratives to highly technical implementation details (and articulate how one impacts the other)
- You have a BS/MS/PhD in a Computer Science, Engineering or related scientific field or equivalent experience
Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That's okay. If you’re passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply.
