Role and Scope of Position:  Manager, Grid Operations Technology (OMS) is responsible for leading the planning and execution of the Company’s grid modernization plans with respect to the electric distribution system across the three-state service territory with a focus on the implementation and support of the company’s outage management system.  Individual is responsible for acting as the business product owner for the outage management system.  In this role, the individual will be leading the technical design and configuration of the OMS system in order to ensure alignment with overall operational technology roadmap.  Individual will oversee the design, configuration and implementation of new business functionality within the OMS environment and plan and execute system upgrade projects.  Individual will assess product roadmaps for the company’s outage management system to ensure that Eversource is utilizing all capabilities to deliver the greatest value to the business. Individual will lead multi-disciplinary teams made up of internal and external subject matter experts from IT, Operations and Engineering, to ensure successful delivery and adoption of the outage management system at Eversource. Individual will be a thought leader in guiding development and prioritization of projects, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.  Individual will conduct extensive industry research and explore collaboration opportunities working with peer utilities to ensure the Company is leveraging and contributing to industry best practices with respect to outage management systems.  Meeting this objective will require monitoring of the cost and performance of existing products and services, scanning the technology horizon for new alternatives, meeting with other business management to understand current and emerging business needs, performing technical and business analysis on the various technology options, defining the portfolio of technologies, products and services, and communicating these results to Eversource leadership.   

Essential Functions:   

  • Assists with the establishment of, and monitors, goals, policies, plans, standards, performance objectives and budget for the operation of the Eversource power system. 
  • Analyzes and recommends resource levels to plan, develop and implement policies and practices.  Monitors operating and financial objectives and ensures alignment with organization and corporate goals. 
  • Responsible for operating support and maintenance of OMS, OUA, OMA, iUtiliix and other outage management related applications.
  • Communicates with internal and external stakeholders in regard to planned system conditions in relations to OT processes on Energy Management System (EMS)/Distribution Management System (DMS)/Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)/Outage Management System (OMS) /Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) , and SCADA front End servers as required.
  • Individual will develop technology deployment plans to ensure that technology portfolios are expanded, upgraded and enhanced to meet changing business requirements.   
  • Develops and supervises Grid Operations Technology staff.  Implements programs to ensure employees possess technical and behavioral skills required to support operating plans.  Manages, selects, coaches and develops staff. 
  • Assists in the development and implementation of best practices to achieve efficient and effective distribution system operations and dispatch.  Assists in the planning and implementation of technological enhancements for the Control Centers.  
  • Responsible for accuracy of the OMS models and the comparison and validation of the two distribution models in DMS & OMS.  
  • Responsible for the engineering leadership in OT product roadmap to plan, initiate, and continuously upgrade new solutions to enable control room capabilities 
  • Coordinates with IT management and other Engineering technical personnel for the replacement, upgrade, and maintenance of Energy Management System (EMS)/Distribution Management System (DMS)/Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)/Outage Management System (OMS) /Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) and related computer/control systems as it relates to the impact on the Outage Management System
  • Provides and evaluates recommendations for telemetry communications architectures and implementations.  
  • Coordinates the development, testing, and maintenance of software systems and tools to track and retain critical system values to allow post analysis of real time system conditions.  
  • Supports Control Center simulator and ensures OMS applications are properly maintained.    
  • Maintains department capital and expense expenditures within budget and cash flow parameters. 
  • Work as a member of the Grid Modernization leadership team to ensure the Company’s grid modernization strategic priorities are responsive to industry developments and continue to maximize value over time, capturing new opportunities as they emerge. 
  • Participate in industry forums as a subject matter expert to drive new capabilities and contribute to best practices 

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill: 

  • Thorough knowledge of transmission and distribution electric system operation.

  • Thorough knowledge of process computer applications and programming.

  • Knowledge of T&D control and outage management systems 

  • Thorough understanding of electrical engineering concepts and familiarity with telecommunications technology

  • Strong analytical skills including experience using qualitative tools in strategic development;

  • Business development aptitude with strong presentation skills;

  • Familiarity with grid modernization technologies.

  • Demonstrated competency and proficiency in oral and written communications. 

  • Customer driven; displays initiative as a change agent with a can-do attitude; accepts responsibility and holds others accountable; participates in and facilitates team effectiveness; assumes the role of team leader; and

  • Ability to make sound decisions to support strategic objectives.

Education:       

  • Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (Electric Power Systems preferred), Engineering, Computer Science, Business. Advanced degree in Engineering preferred.                                   

                 

Experience:      

  • A minimum of ten years of experience in the technical, operational, or engineering aspects of transmission and distribution systems which includes managerial, supervisory and/or team leadership experience

  • Experience with communication systems used for SCADA control at an electric utility

  • Experience within an electric utility system operations control room is preferred

  • Experience using and maintaining real-time systems used in a operations control room is preferred

Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.

  • Must be available to respond personally and manage staff to respond to operational issues outside of normal working hours.

  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.

$158,140.00-$175,710.00
