We are seeking an experienced Manager of Crisis Management and IT Disaster Recovery to lead and evolve MongoDB’s programs for managing crises and recovering critical IT systems during major incidents. This role is vital to safeguarding MongoDB’s IT infrastructure, ensuring service resilience, and protecting customer trust and business operations during unexpected disruptions.

As the Manager of Crisis Management & IT Disaster Recovery, you will lead efforts to ensure MongoDB’s ability to respond to IT and product disruptions, maintaining high availability and reliability. Partnering with IT, engineering, security, product, legal, and executive teams, you will implement centralized strategies that align with MongoDB’s mission. You will also drive clear, effective communication during crises to ensure transparency and maintain customer trust.

This role can be based remotely in the United States region.

Core ResponsibilitiesCrisis Management Program Lead 
  • Design, implement, and lead MongoDB’s enterprise-wide crisis management program, addressing incidents that impact the company, including IT outages, system failures, cybersecurity events, and other operational disruptions
  • Develop and maintain clear protocols for identifying, escalating, and resolving crises efficiently to protect business operations, customer trust, and company-wide resilience
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across all departments—including IT, security, engineering, operations, product, and legal—to ensure contingency plans align with organizational priorities and service-level agreements
IT Disaster Recovery Planning & Execution
  • Develop and execute MongoDB’s IT disaster recovery frameworks to restore critical infrastructure, services, and applications in alignment with recovery time objectives (RTOs) and recovery point objectives (RPOs)
    Continuously assess and refine disaster recovery readiness through simulations and tests to validate system robustness and recovery protocols
  • Optimize MongoDB’s disaster recovery capabilities, focusing on aspects such as tooling redundancy, provisioning/deprovisioning processes, SaaS vendor dependencies, and other infrastructure immaturity concerns
  • Collaborate with the engineering and IT teams to ensure seamless integration of recovery strategies into multi-cloud infrastructures
Governance & Compliance
  • Establish detailed, scalable policies and frameworks for IT disaster recovery and crisis management readiness
  • Ensure MongoDB’s practices adhere to compliance standards such as ISO 22301, NIST, and SOC 2, while maintaining preparedness for audits and regulatory reviews
  • Centralize ownership of IT disaster recovery planning within the organization to enhance accountability and consistency across departments
Collaboration with TT&E Programs
  • Partner with MongoDB’s TT&E (Testing, Training, and Exercise) Manager to ensure IT disaster recovery and crisis management plans are integrated into organization-wide training and simulation efforts
  • Provide subject matter expertise tailored to IT-specific scenarios to complement existing training programs
  • Collaborate on mock tests and exercises to validate preparedness and fine-tune response plans, ensuring MongoDB’s workforce remains aligned and equipped to handle potential IT crises
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT Management, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related field (Advanced degree preferred or certifications such as CBCP, CISM, CISSP)
  • 8+ years’ experience managing IT disaster recovery and crisis management programs in enterprise-scale technology, SaaS, or cloud-focused environments
  • Proven track record of leading incident and crisis response efforts, including managing large-scale disruptions while minimizing business impact
  • Expertise in designing and implementing IT disaster recovery strategies across multi-cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure)
  • A Deep understanding of IT operations, infrastructure management, provisioning/deprovisioning processes, and disaster recovery methodologies
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks like ISO 22301, SOC 2, and NIST, with demonstrated success in audits and organizational certifications
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams, including IT, operations, security, and engineering
Success Measures3 Months
  • Fully onboarded into MongoDB’s IT infrastructure and operational frameworks. 
  • Mapped existing crisis management and IT disaster recovery processes, and identified priority areas for improvement.
  • Established key relationships with IT, engineering, security, and operations teams, as well as with the Test, Training & Exercise Manager and other cross-functional partners.
6 Months
  • Delivered a detailed roadmap and implemented initial improvements to IT disaster recovery and crisis management frameworks.
  • Addressed immediate gaps in processes and infrastructure (e.g., provisioning/deprovisioning delays, SaaS vendor dependencies, and redundant tools).
12 Months
  • Successfully launched a comprehensive, validated IT disaster recovery framework, with measurable improvements in recovery times and system availability metrics.
  • Facilitated organization-wide simulations that demonstrated increased readiness and refined strategies for handling IT-related crises effectively.

MongoDB’s base salary range for this role is posted below. Compensation at the time of offer is unique to each candidate and based on a variety of factors such as skill set, experience, qualifications, and work location. Salary is one part of MongoDB’s total compensation and benefits package. Other benefits for eligible employees may include: equity, participation in the employee stock purchase program, flexible paid time off, 20 weeks fully-paid gender-neutral parental leave, fertility and adoption assistance, 401(k) plan, mental health counseling, access to transgender-inclusive health insurance coverage, and health benefits offerings. $109,000$215,000 USD
