Role overview
We're looking for a versatile, cross-functional Manager to join our People & Talent team. This is not your average HR role!
Reporting to the Sr Director of Learning, Communications, and Community, you'll drive strategy and programming to advance our culture of learning and inclusion. In this role, you will oversee the team directly responsible for our internal events, community initiatives, and charitable giving efforts. As a member of a larger team, you can also expect to have cross-functional assignments and exposure to critical programming across the People & Talent function, including Learning, Communications, and Talent Management. Your ability to work in ambiguity, manage key stakeholder relationships, and juggle responsibilities across different functional areas will be an asset.
What you'll do
Community and Charitable Giving
  • As the lead for our community and charitable giving efforts, you'll help a small team both craft strategy and execute on programming.
  • Set the strategy for our evolving Community function. Serve as a thought leader for core concepts and frameworks. Help us envision and implement an impactful strategy that advances inclusion across our global footprint.
  • Oversee charitable giving efforts and help us maximize the impact of our contributions by building partnerships and creating sustainable processes.
  • Craft an inspirational vision for our growing list of employee resource groups. Provide them with coaching, guidance, and ensure they're having a meaningful impact on organizational policies and practices.
  • Serve as a lead for our employee councils. Acting as a guiding and stabilizing force to empower our leaders to own and drive culture. Serve as a coach and facilitator to help them think through challenges and accomplish strategic goals.

Internal Events
  • Oversee our internal events function, serving as both a thought leader and coach.
  • Bring to life our core values through thoughtful programming that spark excitement and engage our mixed audience of virtual and in-person employee population.
  • You'll support our Events Specialist both in work and in career development. As a small events team, you'll lean in to support large scale events and provide ongoing mentoring.
  • Building partnerships across the organization has been critical to the team's ability to flawlessly execute events which range from hour-long meetings to multiple-day celebrations. You'll be a key member of this growing team and will help to scale the great work already taking place.
  • Additional projects and assignments
  • Careers take many paths at CarGurus. As a member of the Learning, Communications, and Community team, you can expect to collaborate on and lead projects that span the entire scope of our team. Creating learning content, partnering with teams across People & Talent, and helping to manage communication campaigns will all be elements of the role.

What you'll bring
  • Bachelors degree
  • 10+ years of experience
  • Direct experience leading a team in HR
  • Experience in multiple HR functions (e.g., Learning, Talent Management, DEI, etc.)
  • Strong business acumen and interpersonal savvy

Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
