The Position
This position supports CMR business development goals through the successful negotiation and execution of research and strategic partnership contracting agreements. In collaboration with the Associate Director, the Manager will support CMR's partnership and Business Operations contract management strategy with a focus on the creation and adoption of a robust cross-functional framework that facilitates the centralization of CMR supplier knowledge management, the optimization of the supplier relationship model, and the innovation of tools that drive continuous supplier quality improvement and change management. Partnering with internal stakeholders to assess, develop, and execute supplier sourcing and management strategies and best practices that enhance efficiencies across CMR and external business partners. Partnering with stakeholders across CMR to plan, negotiate and execute research and partnership projects that align with business goals and expectations. Ensuring supplier selection and negotiations are in compliance with business guidance and ethics. Supporting strong and effective communication and relationship management across internal and external to ensure alignment on CMR business objectives, expectations, and results. Identifying opportunities for change management that enhance efficiencies across the contracting life cycle.
Relationships
This position reports directly to the Associate Director, Contracting Centre of Excellence. This position will work cross-functionally with stakeholders, including senior leadership, across all organizations within CMR as well as Procurement, Legal and other key focus areas. To support the successful planning and execution of CMR initiatives, this position will be accountable for liaising with current and prospective CMR suppliers including vendors, consultants, key opinion leaders, and other external entities. Manage complex contracting negotiations including, but not limited to, service agreements, research partnerships, sponsorships, memberships, data sharing, non-disclosure, and master service agreements across a broad spectrum of external entities with a focus on budget, quality, compliance and in alignment with business needs.
Essential Functions
- With support of Associate Director develop and drive a CMR supplier sourcing and management engagement strategy informed by analysis of current CMR supplier landscape and comprehensive understanding of current and identified future business needs (e.g., new therapeutic areas)
- With support of Associate Director, manage complex contracting negotiations including, but not limited to, service agreements, research partnerships, sponsorships, memberships, data sharing, non-disclosure, and master service agreements across a broad spectrum of external entities with a focus on budget, quality, compliance and in alignment with business needs
- Identify opportunities for optimization (elimination of services' duplication, utilization of existing suppliers and subcontractors, expedition of contracting timeline, etc.) and standardization of supplier lifecycle (identification/RFP process, contracting, governance structure, etc.) to support consistency and operational synergies across CMR
- Ensure supplier sourcing best practices are a reflection of the Novo Nordisk Way with a particular focus on, but not limited to, the inclusion of diverse and environmentally conscious suppliers in all sourcing initiatives as well as the effective consideration and management of organizational risk and compliance concerns
- Seek innovative and technical solutions to design supplier performance and quality assessment tracking tools and work with internal stakeholders to establish associated key performance indicators/targets (eg data quality and quality assurance metrics for trial vendors)
- Serve as a subject matter expert on key policies and processes related to contracting and supplier management, including key financial assumptions, key performance indicators (KPI) and milestones
- Support the strengthening and streamlining of the end-to-end internal contracting workflow with focus on creating efficiencies, expediting timeline and driving contracting best practices
Physical Requirements
10-20% overnight travel required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business, Finance/Accounting, Supply Chain, or other related areas required. Advanced degree preferred
- A minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible experience in Business Operations/Development, Procurement (i.e. strategic sourcing, purchasing, etc.), Supply Chain including at least 4 years' experience with a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and/or CRO required. Previous consulting experience and understanding of clinical operations preferred
- Knowledge of suppliers and supplier capabilities as well as local and global industry trends to drive informed decision-making and timely action for optimal results
- Experience in contract negotiations with clear understanding/impact of contract and financial schedules i.e. cost benefit analysis, return on investment, KPI, financial milestones and related payment schedules
- Ability to think strategically and initiate strong and persuasive contractual arguments with all levels of business, including senior leadership, to support business policies and objectives
- Demonstrated understanding of best practices for business development and sourcing
- Demonstrated understanding of business and contracting terminology as related to supplier contracts
- Demonstrated ability in strategic thinking as well as negotiating and influencing without authority in complex, high impact situations
- Demonstrates tolerance for ambiguity and uncertainty and is a self-starter who can work autonomously and is not hesitant to challenge the status quo to support new ways of working
- Demonstrated ability in identifying areas of improvement and optimization including ideas for change management
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a cross-functional, fast-paced environment
- Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to understand, identify and explain contractual risk to varying stakeholders
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to be clear and concise in a variety of communication settings
- Advanced capability in MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and MS Word
